About the Role
We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team for a high-impact mining shutdown project. In this role, you will help support the safe execution of site activities by promoting and enforcing safety policies, conducting field audits, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
Project Details
•Duration: 23 months (SeptemberNovember)
•Schedule: Night shift, 20 days on / 9 days off
•Location: Industrial mine site

Responsibilities
•Lead and participate in workplace inspections; conduct accident and incident investigations when required.
•Enforce company safety standards, site policies, and relevant OHS legislation.
•Identify safety issues and hazards, communicate with site management, and help implement corrective actions.
•Attend daily toolbox talks and contractor safety briefings to reinforce site expectations and safe work practices.
•Support the development and reinforcement of a strong safety culture by reviewing Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) and Safe Work Procedures.
•Monitor contractor safety performance, ensuring compliance with site and Rio Tinto requirements.
•Collaborate with project managers and engineers to identify and control safety risks during shutdown execution.
•Coach and support crews to uphold Rio Tintos Safe Production System and core safety principles.
•Assist with site inspections, audits, and follow-up actions as needed.
•Work closely with other HSE personnel, site teams, and agency contacts to drive continuous safety improvements throughout the shutdown.
About You
•Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent).
•Proven shutdown experience in mining or heavy industry is a strong asset.
•Minimum 5 years of safety experience in mining, industrial construction, or major projects.
•Personable and professional you build trust and credibility with contractors and site teams.
•Strong communication skills with the ability to give clear direction, provide feedback, and foster positive relationships.
•Flexible and adaptable to changing site priorities and project conditions.
•Detail-oriented vigilant in identifying hazards and ensuring complete and accurate safety documentation.
•Strong understanding of relevant OHS legislation, codes, and industry best practices.
•Experience managing contractor safety performance and site compliance.
•Effective problem-solver with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, shutdown environment.Additional Requirements
•Please note that you may be required to work in a range of environments including industrial jobsites, offices, and remote sites. This may include working at heights, dirty/dusty and noisy environments, and confined spaces. All personal protective equipment and site-specific training will be provided.
•A negative pre-employment drug and alcohol test, along with an acceptable driving record are important parts of our safety program and are requirements for employment.
