The Role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Head of Finance who thrives in a scrappy, fast-scaling startup environment. This is an operator role, not just a strategic one—you’ll roll up your sleeves, build systems from the ground up, and own all things finance. You will be a critical member of the leadership team, responsible for driving financial planning, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making across the company.

Responsibilities

Strategic Finance & Planning

- Own the company’s financial strategy, forecasting, and long-term planning.

- Partner with the CEO to align budgets with growth objectives and operational priorities.

- Develop financial models to support pricing, expansion, and margin optimization.

Operational Finance

- Implement and manage day-to-day accounting, invoicing, AP/AR, and payroll processes.

- Establish financial controls, policies, and reporting frameworks from scratch.

- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations (including fuel taxes).

Data & Performance Tracking

- Build dashboards and reporting systems that track profitability, cash flow, and unit economics in real time.

- Provide actionable insights to optimize fuel sourcing, delivery costs, and customer margins.

Capital Management

- Support fundraising efforts, investor relations, and board reporting.

- Manage cash, credit, and vendor relationships to maximize working capital efficiency.

Cross-Functional Leadership

- Work closely with operations to understand cost drivers and reduce inefficiencies.

- Collaborate with sales to structure deals and with product to align on cost-saving technology investments.

Qualifications

- 7+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at a high-growth startup or operationally intensive business.

- Strong background in both strategic finance (FP&A, modeling) and operational finance (accounting, controls, compliance).

- Experience managing P&L, budgets, and cash flow in a scaling environment.

- Excellent command of Excel/Google Sheets and familiarity with financial software/ERP tools.

- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to build processes from zero.

- Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.

Bonus Points For:

- Experience in logistics, transportation, or energy/fuel industries.

- Familiarity with fuel tax compliance and fleet operations.

- Prior involvement in venture fundraising or investor reporting.
