This position is responsible for performing horizontal directional drilling / boring in support of pipeline construction. This role requires a strong understanding of HDD techniques, equipment operation, reading plans and ensuring safe and efficient job completing according to project specifications and safety standards.
· Proficiently and safely operate and maintain a 40K or larger drilling rig
· Safely operate support equipment (backhoe, track hoe, forklift and mini excavator)
· Complete bore logs, daily reports and project documentation accurately
· Expected to engage in the safety process and report to Supervisor anytime a situation is deemed unsafe
· Work closely with the locator and other crew members to ensure safe and successful bores
· Manage and plan day to day operations
· Capable of maintaining a safe work environment at all times
· Have a good understanding of basic mud fundamentals, drilling principles, drill tooling and locating equipment and procedures
· Must be a good listener and be able to follow detailed instructions
· Must work well with others and be willing to learn from mentors and others in the shop/field
· Be willing to travel to the jobsite
· Ability to work outdoors in any weather conditions on a regular basis including extreme cold and heat
· Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
· Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, and perform other related physical activities for long periods of time
· Must be able to pass DOT required drug test and physical
· Must have a clean motor vehicle report
· At least 2 years of heavy equipment operation and general maintenance
· At least 2 years of operating horizontal direction drill equipment with locator
· Locating experience (with digitrack F5 system preferred)
