National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

Group Function Rotations

Graduates in our Group Function teams will take part in a 12-month exploration. Your first 6 months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following a broadening 6-month placement designed to provide you with a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.

About the Position

Are you ready to kickstart your career in automation and technology? As an Associate Analyst on our Automation Operations Team, you’ll play a key role in supporting our Process Automation initiatives. You’ll maintain and monitor automations to ensure they meet stakeholder objectives and service level agreements (SLAs). Plus, you’ll have the chance to contribute to the development of innovative solutions that are transforming the energy industry!

This is a hybrid role based in Syracuse, New York, with flexible days in the office for team collaboration, meetings, and training.

What You’ll Do

As an Associate Analyst, you will be a part of a collaborative and solution-oriented team, working to bring National Grid to the future with technological advancements.

In this role, you will:

- Monitor & Optimize: Keep an eye on automated processes to ensure they’re running smoothly and efficiently.

- Troubleshoot Issues: Assist in resolving any workflow-related issues that pop up.

- Collaborate & Document: Work with your team to document processes and create user guides that make life easier for everyone.

- Test & Deploy: Support the testing and rollout of new automated solutions that drive innovation.

- Drive Improvement: Contribute to strategies for process improvement and innovation.

- Incident Management: Be the first line of response for business user issues and help manage incidents.

- Create Training Materials: Develop resources and training materials for end-users to ensure everyone is up to speed.

- Analyze Performance: Help gather and analyze performance metrics to keep our automations on track.

- Schedule Management: Assist in defining and maintaining automated schedules.

- Set Up Tech: Get involved in setting up new virtual machines and applications.

What You’ll Need

- Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Business or a related field.

- Strong analytical skills to look at data and work effectively with business teams.

- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced operational environment, ready to tackle issues and solve problems as they arise.

- A willingness to learn and grow in the field of automation and technology.

- Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026

- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026

- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy

- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

It would be awesome if you had

- Experience building simple to complex automations and awareness of automation tools (RPA, IPA, AI, ML, Microsoft cloud flows, Alteryx, Python, PowerShell).

- Basic understanding of RPA (Robotic Process Automation) concepts and BPM (Business Process Management) and tools (e.g., UiPath, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere).

Salary Range

Syracuse, NY $69,000 - $81,000 a year

You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
