About This Job

Find your superpower with the Graduate Development Program

National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

Information Technology and Digital Graduate Rotations

In IT & Digital, we’re working at the heart of change and harnessing the power of technology to build a cleaner, fairer, and more affordable future for all. Innovation is providing our edge in finding a better way for everyone. In fact, we like to think of ourselves as a band of unsung heroes. Our IT Graduate Development Rotational Program will provide you with the opportunity to be at the heart of this transformation. The program consists of an 18-month exploration consisting of three 6-month rotations in varying IT & Digital departments. Your first rotation will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following two broadening 6-month rotations where you will solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.

About the Position

Are you a motivated and tech-savvy graduate ready to make your mark in the energy sector? National Grid is looking for you! Join our Digital & Technology Graduate Program, where you’ll gain hands-on experience across three critical enterprise platforms: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Maximo (Asset Management), and Salesforce (Customer Relationship Management). This unique rotational role will help you build a solid technical foundation, expose you to different parts of the business, and allow you to work on impactful projects that drive the energy transition.

This is a hybrid role with flexible days in the office for team collaboration, meetings, and training.

What You’ll Do

During your rotations, you’ll dive into exciting projects and gain valuable skills:

- Analysis & Solution Design: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Analyze system data, processes, and integrations across platforms.

- Software Development & Configuration: Develop and configure applications within GIS, Maximo, and Salesforce in the Gas Domain. Write, test, and maintain code/scripts (e.g., Python, Java, SQL, JavaScript) while supporting integration between enterprise platforms and external systems.

- System Support & Enhancements: Assist in troubleshooting issues and implementing system improvements. Work alongside senior engineers to optimize performance, security, and reliability.

- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Share your ideas for improving workflows, automating processes, and enhancing user experiences.

Why You’ll Love It Here:

- Rotational Exposure: Gain experience with three high-impact enterprise platforms.

- Mentorship: Receive guidance from senior engineers and technical leaders who are invested in your growth.

- Professional Training: Get trained on essential tools like Esri, Salesforce, and IBM Maximo.

- Career Path: Enjoy a clear career path into technical, engineering, or product roles at National Grid.

What You’ll Need

- Bachelors or Master's degree from an accredited institution preferably in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

- Strong coding and scripting skills in Python, Java, SQL, or equivalent.

- Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026

- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026

- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy

- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

It would be awesome if you had

- Exposure to web development or API integration.

- Familiarity with enterprise platforms (GIS, Maximo, Salesforce, or similar) is a plus!
