The GIS Technician supports mapping and spatial analysis by collecting, processing, and maintaining geographic data in ArcGIS Pro. This role involves data conversion, map creation, and integration of field data to ensure accuracy and usability. The technician also assists other departments with GIS tasks and adapts to evolving technologies and organizational needs.
- Collects, inputs, processes, and maintains geographic data in ArcGIS Pro
- Processes and analyzes vector (points, lines, polygons) and raster (satellite imagery, elevation models) data for mapping, spatial relationships, and applications like terrain analysis and land use classification
- Performs spatial analysis and geoprocessing using ArcGIS tools
- Converts and manipulates GIS data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML)
- Ensures data accuracy, consistency, and metadata documentation
- Creates, updates, and formats maps, including layouts, symbology, and labeling, in ArcGIS Pro
- Processes, integrates, and verifies field data and asset locations (e.g., power poles, substations, meters)
- Assists other departments with GIS-related tasks and analysis
- Engages in a wide range of responsibilities: data management, analysis, application support, automation, map production, and many other types of responsibilities related to GIS- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, or related field
- 2+ years prior experience in GIS minimum
- Experience with power utilities is strongly preferred
- Experience with ArcGIS Online
- Experience with Utility Network or Geometric Network is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro
- Knowledge of geoprocessing tools and spatial analysis techniques
- Ability to interpret construction plans, field data, and other geographic information
- Strong spatial analysis skills for identifying patterns and relationships in geographic data
- Understanding of Python programming. Experience with Arcpy is strongly preferred
- Understanding of Relational Database. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is strongly preferred
- Critical thinking and attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Adaptability and a strong willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and methods to support evolving organizational needsThis position is temporary; however, currently, it is expected to potentially have a duration of 2+ years. This position will be 40 hours per week, 8am to 4:30pm and will be hybrid remote consisting of at least 3 days in office with optionally 2 days remote. The incumbent will be employed through Express Employment.
