Overview
The GIS / Data Specialist will take the lead in establishing Core6’s GIS capability. You will design and implement workflows, integrate GIS with our existing CAD and environmental data processes, and support IT needs to ensure smooth operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a small-team environment, can work independently, and enjoys creating efficient, practical solutions.
- Set up GIS projects, templates, and data standards for company-wide use.
- Produce high-quality maps, figures, and spatial analyses for environmental projects.
- Integrate AutoCAD drawings with GIS datasets for consistent outputs.
- Source and prepare open data from provincial, municipal, and federal portals.
- Manage raster and vector datasets.
- Develop and implement data management strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure effective data collection, storage, and analysis.
- Establish logical folder structures, file naming conventions, and metadata documentation.
- Data cleaning and transformation
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across projects.
- Analyze environmental data to identify compliance, trends and insights, supporting regulatory reporting and decision-making processes.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to communicate findings.
- Utilize data visualization tools to present complex data in an accessible manner.
- Evaluate and implement new data management technologies and tools to enhance efficiency.
- Conduct regular audits of data processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the data management service area.
- Proficiency in GIS software, particulary ArcGIS and QGIS.
- Strong data cleaning and transformation skills using tools such as Power Query, Python, and other scripting or automation approaches.
- Understanding of relational database fundamentals, including tables, relationships, and basic SQL concepts.
- Strong understanding of projections, coordinate systems, and georeferencing.
- Raster and vector data processing skills.
- Familiarity with environmental data standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with cloud storage systems and basic IT troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
