The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Geologist I to apply geological knowledge and follow standard procedures to log core, complete data entry and review, and basic geological modeling. This position is located at Exploration in Viburnum, MO.
- Inspect and log into database surface and underground diamond drill core. This includes measuring core recovery, determining rock quality designation (RQD), logging lithology and mineralization, taking lab samples, and entering all data into our database. Issuing pay classes to all holes logged, posting holes to associated maps, and compositing legends.
- Utilizing the AcQuire GIM suite to import, export, validate and correct data to be used for many different assets across the company for a variety of groups including exploration, mine geologists, tech services, and mine planning. Administer database by debugging, making updates, and creating new objects within AcQuire.
- Complete data clean up/data verification of historic drill holes. Verify that data from paper logs is correct on maps and in assigned project areas. Calculate geological resources in assigned project areas.
- Assist with the annual resource calculation process and the audits. Resource map creation followed by auditing resource maps and both the block and pillar resource databases, assembling data for annual resource estimate calculations. Compile data for block resource database reconciliation and assemble final data.
- Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a related field.
- AcQuire Database or similar drilling database knowledge preferred.
- Vulcan or similar geological modeling experience preferred.
- Must maintain valid, current driver’s license.
- Proficient computer skills, specifically spreadsheets and databases, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Knowledge of geological mineralization, economic geology, and geological interpretation preferred.
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Excellent observation and decision-making skills.
- Basic knowledge of safety, occupational hazards, and environmental compliance.
Environmental Conditions, Physical Requirements, and Lifting Requirements:
- Regularly required to use computer/tablet. Occasionally required to use non-powered hand tools and drive a personnel carrier. Rarely uses a phone/radio and uses loading equipment.
- Frequently works in an office environment. Rarely exposed to wet, humid conditions, and rarely works in outdoor weather conditions. Rarely exposed to loud noise levels. Rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Regularly required to use repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movement; Frequently required to grasp, sit, and stand; Occasionally required to talk, hear, walk, push, and reach. Rarely required to drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance; Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision.
