Houston Electron Microscopy is looking for a Materials Lab Technician Assistant. We are willing to train the right candidate for this position. Experience is preferred, however not required. The main responsibility of the Lab Technician will be to prepare samples for SEM/EDS and/or micro FT-IR examination. As knowledge increases, technician will have the opportunity to learn and assist with the operation of our Scanning Electron Microscope/ EDS systems, and micro FT-IR system. This position requires high school knowledge of science, chemistry, basic computer aptitude, and punctuality. Hours are flexible, but during regular business hours.
The Materials Lab Technician will be trained and be responsible for the following duties:
- Hands-on experience to prep samples for analysis.
- Follow safety and quality procedures.
- Use cutting, mounting, grinding, and polishing equipment.
- Train to use micro-hardness tester, stereo microscope, metallograph, and assist with scanning electron microscope.
- College level knowledge of materials and or metallurgy is a plus.
- Currently enrolled colleague student / graduate school student major on Material Science / Chemistry
- A love for science and imaging technologies
- Knowledge on SEM, EDS, or Optical Microscopy is a plus
