About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Reporting to the Chief Assayer, the Assay Lab Technicians will participate in activities of the plant’s assay laboratory to ensure the provision of timely and accurate test results. The positions will support operations in Sample Preparation, Fire Assay, Wet Chemistry and Instrumentation.
Other duties include carrying out strict QC/QA testing of samples during the preparation process.
- Participates in the plant’s assay laboratory activities to ensure timely and accurate test results including carrying out analytical tests on geology samples and ore processed in the mill to determine gold content.
- Make basic reagents and calibration solutions as necessary.
- Perform and execute methods on Atomic Absorption and Microwave Plasma instruments as per Alamos SOP’s including routine maintenance and quality procedures.
- Assist in the Development of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) procedures.
- Exercise general supervision of the analyses of mine and mill samples. This includes checking that equipment is well maintained. ensuring use of the proper Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) Comparing the results of QC/QA samples for compliance with permitted tolerances and endorsing test results.
- Support an accurate and timely data delivery system back to the customers. This will involve the use of a LIMS package designed for the Sample Receiving , Sample Preparation and Data Reporting.
- Assist in developing the most cost effective and accurate methods and procedures. This includes reviewing present methods and as necessary suggesting modifications to suit required applications.
- Ensure the continuing availability of consumable supplies, and equipment spares. This includes carrying out regular checks of stock levels.
- Ensures all personal protective equipment (PPE) is always worn properly.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives of the department.

- Previous experience in a mining lab or a commercial lab that analyzes mine samples is preferred.
