What You’ll Do

CPA is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and dynamic financial professional to  join our team as the Financial and Accounting Analyst. This role will support the Accounting team with day-to-day finance and accounting tasks, financial reporting, financial analyses, audit assistance and ad hoc projects.


Who You’ll Work With

The Finance team performs various functions including treasury management, risk management, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, accounting and financial reporting.  The Finance and Accounting Analyst will work under the supervision of the Financial Reporting Manager and will work closely with the Accounting Manger II, Senior Accountant and Senior Director, Finance and Accounting to support finance and accounting functions, including month-end close-related activities, projects, invoice validation and financial reporting.

Requirements


- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Excellent organizational, scheduling, time management skills and attention to detail

- Ability to work independently on projects with minimum supervision

- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

- Ability to fully own tasks, work, and processes with minimal oversight

- Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices including preparing correspondence and operating modern office equipment

- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced knowledge of Excel

- Experience working with Tableau or other data visualization tools preferred

- Energy industry experience and understanding of how energy markets operate is a plus

- Large ERP system experience is a plus

- Experience with data analysis tools such as R, Python and SAS is a plus but not required


Duties and Responsibilities

- Accounting: Responsible for the monthly and annual Net Energy Meter Program customer payment process, including but not limited to uploading files, voiding checks, corresponding with the Customer Care team and the billing manager regarding customer data, and filing unclaimed property with the State.  Perform the month-end close tasks as assigned, including but not limited to journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses as needed. Responsible for performing internal and external financial reporting activities, including but not limited to analyzing monthly financial transaction variances and various financial reports. Responsible for assisting with the preparation of financial and ad hoc reports as assigned. Responsible for preparing audit schedules, gathering and responding to audit requests as needed. Responsible for assisting with the administration of the Company’s corporate credit card program, including but not limited to reviewing receipts, validating supports, assigning accounting coding, and performing reconciliations.

- Strategic Analysis: Conducts analysis to identify trends and anomalies that impact operations and provides findings to internal stakeholders. Supports the development of recommendations by analyzing large datasets using established models and methodologies. Contributes to building analytical and operational capabilities through collaborative problem solving. Responsible for performing specific analysis on performance of resources, payment calculations, comparing resource output to contractual obligations and forecasts. Responsible for communicating analytical findings to leadership.

- Customer Programs: Responsible for preparing and validating monthly Customer Program profit and loss (P&L) reports and reviewing them with each Customer Program manager to ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions and their compliance with GAAP and contractual requirements. Responsible for creating, modifying, and validating the tasks, including but not limited to accounting set-up, expense allocations, payment structure, and monthly expense tracking. Responsible for attending internal teams update meetings and maintaining accurate Accounting Programs Matrix files.

- System Support: Collaborate with internal teams including but not limited to Accounting and Data and Systems on evaluating, implementing, and testing new accounting and financial reporting systems, including but not limited to researching ERP systems and tools pre-implementation and custom report design post-implementation.

- Treasury: Responsible for performing treasury functions including but not limited to daily wire set-up, monthly lockbox certificate preparation, and cashflow forecast master file updates.

- SCE Non-Energy Bill (NEB) Validation: Responsible for analyzing and validating the monthly non-energy invoices from SCE by performing shadow calculations using customer billing data, before uploading the invoices to the accounting platform.  Responsible for identifying and communicating any invoice variances with customer billing to SCE counterparts to resolve the variances.

- Vendor Coordination: Responsible for coordination with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure timely delivery of products and services. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to coordinating payment and review of invoices, managing licenses and subscriptions, coordinating license renewals, reviewing contracts and service level agreements (SLAs), coordinating support requests or escalations, processing change orders, and tracking vendor performance. Serve as a point of contact for vendor issue resolution, and project alignment to ensure vendors meet CPA standards and expectations.

- Other Responsibilities: Collaborate with internal and outside parties for coordination and analysis.  Provide administrative support, prepare forms, track the compliance report deadlines for the Finance and Accounting team and assist with coordinating team meetings.  Assist with preparing and managing Requests for Proposal.


- Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or relevant area of study required


- 3 years of relevant experience required


- Energy or local government experience preferred

Work Location

This position is eligible for either Hybrid or Remote options. The Hybrid option requires 2-3 assigned full-time days in the Downtown Los Angeles office and includes a transportation allowance. The Remote & Hybrid options require full-time in-person attendance at organization or team-wide events 3 times per year for 3-5 days per event. All staff are required to work during CPA’s office hours Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:30pm PST.


Benefits

The salary range for this position is $87,590-$131,385 , with exact compensation to be determined by Clean Power Alliance, dependent on experience. Benefits include health care, a 401(k)-like match program, paid vacation, and sick leave. This is not a civil service position; however, all CPA employees are required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests form, also known as the Form 700.
