Looking for a Finance & Accounting Professional to oversee and coordinate the cash and debt management functions; administer the banking processes for KIUC; perform financial, accounting, and internal control activities to include: journal entries and transaction processing; account reconciliations; month-end and year-end closing; financial and tax reporting; audits; general accounting; disbursement processing; and banking. Ensures appropriate accounting records are maintained and that accounting transactions are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); the USDA Rural Utility Service (RUS) Uniform System of Accounts; the Hawaii Public Commission (PUC) regulations; federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations; lender covenants; and KIUC policies and procedures. Provides accounting support and informs department and company staff on accounting policies and procedures. Supervises, trains, develops, and provides support to direct reports.
The salary range for this position reflects a number of factors considered in compensation decisions, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, experience, training, licenses and certifications, and the organization’s business needs. In alignment with our compensation philosophy, candidates are typically not placed at the top of the range; however, placement within the range will be based on individual qualifications and relevant circumstances. The range provided represents what KIUC would reasonably offer a qualified candidate.

- Monitors daily cash operations (cash receipts and disbursements)
- Forecasts monthly cash balances according to guidelines set by the CFO
- Ensures maximum use of available funds while complying with investment policies
- Monitors the company's cash resources to ensure cash and cash equivalent assets are properly safeguarded
- Oversee all processes associated with accounts payable processing, procurement cards, and personal expense report
- Processes authorized changes to the bank accounts
- Requests issuance of security tokens to employees
- Updates list of authorized signatories and wire transfer limits
- Creates new bank accounts as needed
- Creates repetitive wire transfer templates
- Initiates repetitive and one-time wire transfer payments
- Routes wire transfer payments for approval and release
- Prepares journal entries for wire transfer payments
- Timely and accurate payment and recording of short- and long-term debt payments, debt service costs, and new debt issuances
- Recommends short-term borrowing
- Schedules principal payments based on cash flow
- Updates the long-term debt amortization schedule based on actual principal and interest payments
- Reconciles the short- and long-term debt schedules to the general ledger
- Responsible for the preparation of loan applications in conjunction with Construction Work Plans
- Verifies accuracy of invoices, including receiving and coding
- Reviews updates to vendor maintenance records
- Approves accounts payable payment batches for remittance
- Coordinates timing of accounts payable batches with cash management practices
- Monitors fuel price changes
- Prepares and schedules fuel payments
- Updates and reconciles fuel inventory schedules
- Compiles data from monthly production and billing reports to generate month-end generation and financial reports
- Review and analyzes monthly power plant records for consistency, accuracy, and completeness
- Assists in the month-end and year-end closing process
- Responsible for timely and accurate processing of journal entries and financial transactions to the general ledger
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations to the general ledger as assigned
- Assists in the timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, RUS Uniform System of Accounts, PUC regulations, and KIUC policies and procedures
- Performs, analyzes, and monitors internal controls related to responsible duties
- Prepares timely and accurate internal management reports, variance analysis, and analytical reviews as requested
- Assists with timely and accurate preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns in accordance with federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations
- Assists in the coordination of, and preparation for, internal and external audits of KIUC's financial records
- Assists in researching and analyzing the impact of proposed regulatory and accounting changes on KIUC
- Performs various financial analyses, test work, and feedback on financial and/or statistical data
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration, with emphasis in Accounting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required; Master's degree in Accounting, Finance of Business Administration is preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license strongly preferred.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid State of Hawaii Driver's License.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in general and/or utility accounting.
- Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of treasury or cash management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting theory, and the ability to apply accounting theory to financial transactions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of internal control functions, cash management practices; public accounting, auditing experience, electric utility, cooperative, and/or regulatory experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of Rural Utility Services (RUS) accounting policies and reporting requirements, electric utility industry accounting practices, and regulatory reporting preferred.
- Familiarity with State of Hawaii PUC regulatory requirements as it relates to tariff issues and financial reporting preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of rate-based accounting principles, and cooperative business practices and philosophies preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of automated financial systems and PC applications.
- Must be able to handle private, sensitive, and confidential information within KIUC guidelines.
