Reports To: Field Commissioning Manager Location: Field-based with travel (Athens/Home Area as base) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The Field Technician – Commissioning supports field commissioning activities for protection & control (P&C) schemes, instrument transformers, protective relays, revenue meters, and related electrical equipment at high-voltage transmission/distribution substations, power plants, and petrochemical plants. This role assists with testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.
- Assist in field commissioning activities for validation of P&C schemes and equipment testing.
- Support testing, troubleshooting, and inspection of AC/DC schematics, CT/PT circuits, relays, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, and other electrical equipment.
- Perform field measurements, equipment checks, and documentation under the direction of senior staff.
- Maintain and track test equipment, tools, and materials for field assignments.
- Assist with installation, demolition, and field service tasks as needed.
- Follow safety standards, company policies, and utility requirements while performing field work.
- Collaborate with field managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure efficient project execution.
- Complete required documentation, reports, and compliance records accurately.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent technical training or field experience may be considered.
- 1–3 years of experience in substation field services, commissioning, or related electrical work preferred.
- Basic knowledge of protective relaying, substation equipment, and commissioning practices.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Fundamental understanding of electrical theory, power systems, and protective relaying concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a field environment with changing conditions.
- Proficiency in completing technical documentation and reports.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
This is a full-time, hourly position with pay commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes per diem for approved travel and eligibility for REI’s comprehensive benefits package.
- $178 per diem for nights spent away from the Athens/Home Area on approved field assignments
- Two (2) weeks of paid vacation upon hire
