We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Field Electrical Engineer in Massachusetts with a minimum of five (5-10) years of experience in substation design, construction support, protection and control (P&C), and commissioning. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations
- Provide on-site technical support during substation construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Review electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and protection schemes, ensuring proper field execution.
- Serve as the first point of contact for resolving field issues and coordinating solutions in real time.
- Validate relay settings, logic schemes, and SCADA/RTU integration.
- Lead commissioning of protection schemes for transmission, distribution, and station service systems.
- Troubleshoot P&C issues and coordinate resolution with design and relay teams.
- Coordinate equipment testing (breakers, transformers, relays, CTs, PTs).
- Support energization activities and ensure all systems meet operational requirements.
- Verify compliance with NESC, IEEE, and client-specific standards.
- Review grounding, conduit, and foundation drawings for field constructability.
- Collaborate with civil and structural teams to resolve site conditions.
- Maintain organized records, as-built markups, and test reports.
- Prepare clear progress reports and provide updates to project management and stakeholders.
- Confidently make informed on-the-go decisions to keep work on schedule.
- Escalate complex or high-impact issues promptly with recommended solutions.
- Champion a safety-first culture, leading job safety briefings and ensuring adherence to OSHA and company standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
- 5+ years of substation engineering, P&C, and commissioning experience.- Hands-on expertise with high-voltage equipment, relay testing, and commissioning.
- Strong organizational and document management skills.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Confident decision-maker under field conditions, with sound judgment to escalate when appropriate.
- Effective communicator, capable of reporting progress clearly to managers and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with relay test sets (Omicron, Doble, Megger) and SCADA integration.
- Working knowledge of civil/structural drawings and grounding systems.
- Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70E, and utility standards.
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
- Valid driver’s license.
Pay Range $150,000 - 175,000
