The Field Service Technician will provide professional service and support to customers by performing system installations, startups, repairs, and maintenance of the water and wastewater treatment equipment offered by Velodyne and UGSI Chemical Feed. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, customer-oriented technician who enjoys troubleshooting in the field, communicates effectively, and works collaboratively with internal teams to ensure high-quality support and service for water treatment equipment. They will provide excellent customer service by being responsive, approachable, and solution-focused, helping to build trust, support long-term relationships, and identify opportunities to promote aftermarket parts and service offerings. This full-time position will report to the Field Service Manager and be based out of the Grain Valley,
Missouri facility when not working at customer jobsites.
Essential Job Functions
•Provide technical consultation and installation assistance to on-site personnel and contractors
•Provide customer pre-consultation, site readiness preparation, and startup monitoring
•Provide on-site training of customer personnel on proper operation of equipment
•Repair machines and systems, including rebuilds, and assist with unit refurbishments and replacements, both at facility and at customer sites
•Perform routine maintenance on equipment
•Make technical recommendations to maintenance technicians and treatment plant operators
•Complete service reports recording repairs, warranty services, and maintenance performed
•Properly document, label, and return all defective parts resulting from repairs, warranty services, and maintenance
•Comply with cleanwater1 safety and personal protective equipment policies at all times, including at customer sites that involve exposure to dangerous or hazardous conditions
•Determine the correct tools and equipment required to perform day-to-day duties
•Work with engineering, project management, and sales teams to resolve escalated problems
•Ensure all materials, tools and equipment are kept safe, secure, and in good working order
•Ensure site work is carried out in the required order, for completion by the required timeline
•Travel 60-80% of the time to customer jobsites within the continental United States
•When not traveling, collaborate with the shop team to assist with equipment testing, assembly, shipping, and
•Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
•Three to five years of experience installing/repairing/maintaining water or wastewater treatment equipment or in a related field
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Basic computer skills and ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Office for reports and time and record keeping
•Machinery demonstration/pilot testing or controls knowledge
•Experience with electro-mechanical pneumatics hydraulics, AC/DC motor controls, PLCs, VFDs, and pump systems
•Ability to diagnose technical problems and determine proper solutions
•Strong mechanical, technical, and troubleshooting skills
•Ability to read and review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare for startup or service
•Self-motivated with ability to work and think independently
•Strong time management and organization skills
•Ability to climb and work at heights on silos, water tanks and other elevated structures sometimes reaching 180+ feet
•Must comply with drug testing requirements as mandated by customer site policies to ensure eligibility for on-site access
•Availability and willingness to travel by car or plane to customer jobsites from Monday to Friday, and on weekends as needed
•Have and maintain a valid driver's license meeting the Real ID requirements, with a clean driving record (MVR will be run regularly).
Preferred Qualifications
•PLC and OIT programing and diagnostics
•Valid passport with ability to travel internationally
•Associate degree or higher in technical field or equivalent
•Water or wastewater treatment license or equivalent experience.
Work Environment
•Approximately 25% to 50% Light Industrial - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions; and
•Approximately 50% to 75% Customer Jobsites - May be exposed to a variety of weather elements as well as areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
•Exposure to liquid and dry chemicals and substances associated with water and wastewater treatment, including permanganate, polymers, sodium hypochlorite, and liquid ammonium sulfate, powder activated carbon, ferric, among others.
Physical Demands
•Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls
•Must have manual dexterity to operate the equipment and tools required for this position
•Must be able to quickly respond (with the hand, finger or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears
•Must wear furnished uniform and maintain clean and professional appearance while working with customers, vendors and colleagues
•Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
•Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
•Ability to perform work under a variety of weather conditions
•Ability to climb and work at heights on towers, roofs, water towers and other elevated structures
•Ability to work on construction sites with exposures to dangerous conditions; and
•Willing and able to wear PPE as required including but not limited to a harness, Tyvek suit, half or full-face respirator, gloves, goggles, safety shoes, hard hat or helmet.
•Compliance with our Respirator Protection Program which may include a physical evaluation by a medical professional.

This position is non-exempt. Compensation is dependent on skill level. The base salary range for this position is between $30 and $45 per hour. Benefits package and incentives are provided. We generally offer employees working 21 hours per work or more medical, dental, vision, along with voluntary ancillary benefits.
