Job Summary

The Field Quality Technician will support LNG operations by overseeing field-level quality control activities specific to painting and paint repairs. This role plays a vital part in verifying compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications during field execution. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Safety teams, the Field Quality Technician will help drive continuous improvement, reduce rework, and ensure high-quality field deliverables for LNG operations.


Location/Travel Information

This position is based at the Terminal Facilities, LQF or PTF, with travel to off-site locations as required. This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license and passport at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.


Duties/Responsibilities


Painting Quality Inspections:

Perform and sign off on field inspections to verify compliance with SSPC, NACE, and project specifications

Monitor surface preparation, coating application, and curing processes


Document and Records Management:

Collaborate with planning teams to gather required documentation (inspection test plans, specifications, SDS)
Maintain inspection reports and quality records related to painting activities


Defect Identification and Reporting:

Identify, document, and report painting defects or non-conformities
Communicate findings and support timely resolution with responsible parties


Compliance and Protocol Adherence:

Follow established coating inspection protocols
Ensure compliance with VOC, environmental, safety, and regulatory standards


Continuous Improvement:

Provide field-based input for quality and process improvements
Recommend ways to minimize defects and enhance coating performance


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to align on quality goals
Offer technical expertise to support supplier management and ensure compliance

Minimum Qualification/Work Experience

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Minimum Experience: 5+ years of experience in painting quality control, coating inspection, or industrial paint repair work in LNG, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments

Preferred Education: Associates Degree in Quality Management, or a related field.

Preferred Experience: 7+ years of experience in painting quality control, coating inspection, or industrial paint repair work in LNG, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Working knowledge of SSPC, NACE, and LNG painting standards

Experience identifying field defects and facilitating corrective actions
Proficiency in completing and maintaining inspection reports
Clear and professional verbal and written communication
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently in field environments
Certified Coatings Inspector (e.g., NACE Level 1 or 2) preferred


HSE Roles and Responsibilities

Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

Work Environment

Operates in outdoor and industrial plant environments

May work near hazardous materials and in confined spaces
Routinely uses inspection tools and PPE
Fieldwork may involve walking, climbing, or extended standing


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. as required in order to lift files, boxes and office equipment as necessary.
Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending, standing on a stool, or climbing as necessary to perform these functions.
While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent may be required to talk or hear.
The incumbent is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required.
Ability to move throughout all areas of each office/site location and facilities.
