Your Responsibilities The Field Engineering Lead serves as the on-site technical authority for field engineering at the K+S Potash Canada (KSPC) Bethune site. The role ensures that construction execution aligns with the design intent, scope of work, engineering drawings, and quality specifications, all while maintaining strict compliance with KSPC’s safety standards. This is a hands-on role that involves responding to contractor technical queries, managing field change processes, and troubleshooting design and constructability issues that could impact construction progress. The role collaborates closely with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve field engineering issues in a timely manner and drive the project toward a safe, successful completion. In addition, the Field Engineering Lead will draw on their mechanical engineering background and multi-discipline experience to coordinate field activities and may mentor junior engineers or field staff as part of developing a high-performing field engineering team. This role supports capital project delivery, construction readiness, and field-level engineering execution throughout the project lifecycle.

Field Engineering - 50%

Serve as the primary on-site engineering representative, ensuring installation and construction work meets design, drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Responsible for managing change and keeping the project team aware of design changes.
Conduct regular walkdowns and quality surveillance audits to verify construction aligns with design intent and quality expectations.
Coordinate interdisciplinary interface issues throughout execution.
Acts as the approving engineer for closing Building Permits by validating that installations meet the approved design.
Interface with project controls and supports the team in the form of schedule and cost reviews.
Identify changes in the field and ensure that the scope or direction is clear. Communicate potential changes and ensure that no work is undertaken before a team review.
Assist in the implementation of the Construction Quality Program.
Respond promptly to Requests for Information (RFIs) and Technical Queries from contractors and liaise with project and discipline engineers as needed.
Identify and support field change processes including Project Change Notices (PCNs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
Assists in the maintenance of the project construction critical items list and system turnover documentation.
Maintain and update the field Change Log to support traceable change management.
Resolves and clarifies issues of scope and technical data for field issued contracts.
Support commissioning and system turnover by verifying inspections, punch lists, and documentation completeness.
Audit Mechanical Completion and Turnover Procedure compliance to ensure flawless handover to Operations.

Engineering, Planning, Optimization & Oversight - 20%

Assists in the development of project definition and scoping for KSPC Projects.
Assists in the development of scope definition and technical data for field contracts.
Participates in planning, reviews and makes independent studies, analysis, interpretations and conclusions relating to assigned projects.
Collaborates and supports 3D models reviews.
Collaborates and supports constructability and sequencing reviews.
Collaborate with project managers, construction execution leads, project engineers, and execution planners to develop short-range construction plans (e.g. 3-week lookaheads) based on the master schedule.
Track and verify installed quantities and progress; prepare progress and dashboard reports.
Proactively identify and mitigate construction risks.
Use and support continuous improvement of digital engineering and construction tools such as Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and SharePoint.


Vendor & Contractor Management - 10%

Support the construction team with daily contractor coordination to ensure execution meets contract and technical specifications.
Liaise with OEMs and vendors for technical support and inspections.
Review receiving reports to confirm timely delivery of correct materials and equipment, and flag discrepancies.
Provide technical input to change requests and contractor claims.


Field Engineering Team Leadership - 10%

Lead and mentor a small team of field engineers, including both internal staff and contract employees.
Ensure adherence to engineering standards and provide technical direction.
Provide mentorship and support development plans for junior engineers to build KSPC’s internal field engineering capability.
Track and implement lessons learned throughout execution.
Oversee performance of direct reports and encourage continuous improvement.


Safety, Health & Environment - 10%

Champion KSPC’s corporate safety culture by integrating risk management into planning, execution, and daily decision-making.
Ensure all activities are compliant with KSPC’s health, safety, and environmental standards.
Demonstrate visible safety leadership and integrate safety into engineering decisions.
Participate in field safety programs and proactively address safety concerns.

YOUR PROFILE

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.

Demonstrated commitment to safety in safety-sensitive environments.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Saskatchewan (preferred); P.Tech designation with extensive field experience will also be considered.
10+ years of experience in heavy industrial or mining environments; 7+ years in field engineering roles.
Deep understanding of mechanical systems and interdisciplinary construction coordination.
Proven QA/QC knowledge and familiarity with inspection, testing, and turnover documentation.
Knowledge of CSA, ASME, API codes and ISO quality standards.
PMP certification is considered an asset, particularly for candidates with responsibilities in planning and scheduling.
This is a site-based, safety-sensitive position that may involve rotational schedules or extended field presence as construction demands evolve.
Proficiency in Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office.
Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring abilities.
Ability to manage risks, prioritize tasks, and solve complex field problems.
