National Grid Generation owns and operates 3,800 megawatts (MW) of steam and combustion turbine units on Long Island. Generation is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of these units. Generation is a fully integrated organization with operating and support services capabilities. The Power Engineering Department (PED) within Generation develops engineered solutions for the steam and combustion turbine units and works closely with power plant and support services personnel during the engineering and construction phases of specific projects. PED is also actively involved with new project development including, but not limited to, utility scale battery storage, solar and simple cycle combustion turbine generators. The Power Engineering Dept. (PED) is a multi-disciplined team of engineers who are self-directed and empowered to develop and implement solutions on a wide range of Generation and Corporate initiatives. PED Engineers have project ownership from inception through operation. National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer. This position is located in Hicksville, NY. Job Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Reliability Engineering Manager in PED and will support internal and external team members collaborating on new projects and improvements to our existing fleet of steam and combustion turbine units on Long Island. This position is responsible to inspect and evaluate power boilers, pressure vessels, process tanks, high energy piping systems, and mechanical components. The person in this role is responsible to assess and implement improvements to the existing steam and combustion turbine units as part of the capital improvement and maintenance processes. Project assessments shall include, but are not limited to, mechanical design options, material analysis, business alternatives, cost/benefit analysis, risk analysis and project performance evaluations. This position will include project engineer, project design and project manager responsibilities on projects. This role is responsible to develop mechanical specifications, standards and procedures on projects. This position is an essential contributor to our goal of asset management and technology modernization.
