The Field Engineer supports the construction management team and oversees a variety of project-based tasks in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must have strong technical and communication skills with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. 2+ years of experience is preferred but not required or 5 years of experience in a similar role. The position entails consulting with the Field Superintendent, Foremen and Project Manager on scheduling, work force reporting and cost control. Other tasks include overseeing the procurement and inspection of materials and equipment, as well as updating daily field, drawing, and customer specific reporting logs. The position is based in New York City with competitive wages and benefits.
- Maintenance of logs and drawings which include field drawings, lost time notifications, field overtime log, and daily/monthly crane inspection checklist
- Working with the Superintendent and Foremen to determine any issues with erecting steel and documenting the issue appropriately
- Recommending fixes to any field issues to the Engineer of Record in a clear and concise manner to facilitate timely approval
- Helping the Foreman and Project Managers identify and solve any conflicts with steel erection and/or crane activities. Coordinate with GC, surveyors, subcontractors and others to ensure project timeline is met
- Steel delivery coordination
- Attend weekly project meetings
- Assisting with managing field budget and controlling hours and costs
- Facilitating pricing of extra costs to present to Owner/Construction Manager
- Track project activities and assign cost codes/force accounts to them
- Facilitate coordination of crane activities such as lift plans, crane jumps, etc.
- Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment
- BA in Construction Management or Engineering or 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication and erection
- Access to NYC and ability to be in the office full time
- Familiarity with structural drawings and construction technology
- Primarily based in a field environment with some office work.
- May require standing for extended periods and the ability to lift to 50 pounds.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
