Position Overview:
We’re looking for a Field Controls Engineer to join our operations team. This individual will support the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, and cellular modem systems. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in instrumentation and industrial electrical systems, understands VFDs, and can assist with field commissioning and startup of automation systems. While the role doesn’t require PLC programming from scratch, familiarity with managing and loading PLC logic is essential
Reports TO: SCADA Engineer & Controls Engineer
Travel Required: Yes (commissioning, support, and startup assistance
Key Responsibilities:
•Deploy, update, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and industrial cellular modems in the field
•Support field technicians with equipment diagnostics, wiring verification, and control system issues.
•Assist with field commissioning and startup of automation systems.
•Download programs to PLCs, HMIs, and perform modem configurations.
•Interface with instrumentation and electrical equipment across a wide voltage range (12 VDC to 480 VAC).
•Assist with VFD setup, tuning, and diagnostics in the field.
•Work closely with SCADA and Controls Engineers to ensure proper deployment of automation systems.
•Maintain documentation of field configurations, site notes, and equipment status.
•Create and update SOPs, field documents, manuals, etc.
Requirements:
•2+ years’ of field experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
•Proficient with VFDs, including wiring and basic setup.
•Basic understanding of instrumentation calibration and signal types (4-20mA, RTD, etc.)
•Familiar with PLCs (Siemens, or similar), including uploading/downloading and minor modifications.
•Comfortable working with and around electrical systems from 12 VDC up to 480 VAC.
•Strong troubleshooting skills and a hands-on approach in field environments.
•Willingness to travel to operational sites as needed.
•Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with industrial cellular modems (e.g., Peplink, Sierra Wireless, etc.)
•Familiarity with SCADA systems or remote monitoring systems.
