We are seeking a detail-oriented Fabrication Quality Technician to ensure fabricated and welded components meet customer specifications, drawings, and industry standards. This role is ideal for a welder transitioning into inspection/quality. The position also supports shipping/receiving to maintain accurate flow, documentation, and on-time movement of parts.
- Perform in-process and final inspections on fabricated and welded parts.
- Conduct visual weld inspections—identify pits, pores, porosity, and size discrepancies.
- Verify materials, dimensions, and finishes against engineering drawings and specifications.
- Document inspection results, nonconformance, and corrective actions in the designated logs/systems.
- Collaborate with the Supervisor to provide feedback and maintain quality standards.
- Work alongside the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for higher-level inspections (e.g., magnetic particle, dye penetrant, food-grade).
- Perform dye penetrant testing and pressure/leak testing (air or hydrostatic) as specified.
- Track and store all parts and associated paperwork (prints, certs, inspection sheets) until complete work orders are assembled.
- Once complete, gather all parts and paperwork and move them to the next operation per the traveler/routing.
- Work closely with Expedite (primarily via email) to locate parts in the shop, confirm status, and ensure parts are moved or checked off promptly to meet on-time delivery.
- Monitor outside services (e.g., paint, plating, heat treat):
- Create and fill out outside service tags,
- Make and include copies of all required prints/certs,
- Coordinate pickups/returns, and
- Track due dates to ensure on-time completion.
- Assist with unloading incoming parts from trucks and from other Bayside location; verify counts and condition.
- Confirm received items match packing slips or purchase orders before releasing.
- Stage, unstack, and route materials to the proper department.
- Support outbound shipments, ensuring inspection tags, certifications, and quality documentation are included.
- Assist with packaging and labeling as needed.
- Attend the weekly scheduling meeting every Monday at 10:00 AM.
- Communicate status updates, issues, and risks proactively to the Supervisor, Expediter, or CWI.
- Based in the fabrication shop with exposure to welding, grinding, and fabrication processes.
- PPE required: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Movement between workstations, inspection areas, and shipping/receiving zones; occasional travel between Bayside locations.
- Background in welding/fabrication preferred; strong interest in inspection/quality.
- Working knowledge of welding processes, symbols, and applicable standards (AWS/ASME).
- Ability to interpret blueprints, customer prints, and GD&T.
- Strong attention to detail; solid documentation and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with measuring tools and inspection methods.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills; email coordination with Expedite required.
- Shift: First Shift, Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:00 PM
- Breaks: One 10-minute paid break and one 15-minute paid lunch per shift.
- Compensation: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
