We are currently seeking for a Quality Technician that wants to grow with S+S and be a part of our Quality team!
This position is located in Houston, TX 77011 (East Downtown).
- 2–5 years in QA/QC for metal fabrication or bus-bar; mix of inspection and engineering support preferred
- Comfortable with prints and basic GD&T; capable with common shop gages
- Experience with PFMEA/control plans, PPAP/FAI, NCRs/8D, and basic SPC; or demonstrably trainable
- Working knowledge of ERP and Excel (data entry, charts, pareto)
- Clear communicator; steady under pressure; detail-first and coachable
- Forklift experience
- Ability to multitask and maintain effectiveness in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Bilingual (Spanish , English) is a plus
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
– verify prints, revision, special notes; check bend angle/flatness, hole size/location, slot/burr, saw length/finish, surface and label placement
– record results to control plan; escalate deviations and support quick correction
– confirm kit completeness, labels/barcodes, part ID/rev, paperwork, and traceability to traveler and lot/heat
– maintain and improve PFMEAs and control plans; update detection/prevention methods after issues or engineering changes
– participate in process reviews and introduce checks that reduce RPN and escape risk
– log defects with photos; trend scrap, rework, and first-piece acceptance; run pareto and simple SPC (X-bar/R or IMR)
– lead or support 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone; verify effectiveness of corrective actions
– collect and organize FAIR/PPAP packages (flowdown, ballooned print, results, MSA, capability where applicable)
– ensure certs/CoC and special requirements are attached to the job packet/shipment packet
– perform or coordinate Gage R&R for critical measurements; spot-check gage condition and calibration status
– preserve copper/aluminum lot/heat through each operation; ensure traveler, label, and records match
– partner with Production on setup reduction and error-proofing; create/maintain visual standards at Punch, Brake, Saw, and Packing
– clear handoffs at shift change; concise updates to leads and managers; document holds, rework, and releases in ERP and logbooks
- Print reading, GD&T basics (features, datums, tolerances)
- Measurement methods: calipers, micrometers, pin/plug gauges, height gage/surface plate, angle gauges/protractors; simple attribute gauges
- PFMEA and control plan maintenance; basic SPC and capability (Cp/Cpk)
- MSA concepts (bias, linearity, stability, R&R)
- ERP transactions for quality holds/releases and record attachments (Visual or similar)
- Bus-bar specifics: protection of tin-plated surfaces, burr and edge criteria, label/spec placement, moisture/scratch prevention in packing
- First-piece acceptance rate and first-pass yield
- Scrap and rework hours; NCR count and closure lead time
- PPAP/FAI on-time completion and right-first-time rate
- Gage R&R acceptance; control-plan audit score
- Traceability accuracy and documentation completenessShift: Days - Monday-Saturday 5:00am-5:00pm: overtime as needed
Night shift premium - $2 additional per hour (5pm-5am)
