About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Primary Responsibilities:
•Provide technical and supervisory leadership for the Island Gold Regional Exploration team including reviewing, development and maintenance of best practice technical exploration systems and protocols.
•Ensure best practices collection of geological information from exploration programs including diamond drilling, mapping, geochemistry, geophysics, and surface sampling, in accordance with AGI QA/QC workflow practices and standards.
•Supervise the interpretation and analysis of exploration data and guide other team members in doing the same.
•Facilitate regional-, target-, and deposit-scale geological models (lithology, structure, alteration, and mineralization).
•Collaborate closely with the Chief Geologist, production and minex IGM exploration personnel, and work together with other department heads at Island Gold Mine.
•Identify and communicate advances in the geologic model learnings and recommendations for improving geologic data collection and interpretation.
•In collaboration with the Exploration Manager, Canada, Chief Exploration Geologist and Manager of GIS and Database support, ensure technical coaching for professional development purposes and a proactive mentorship of exploration staff with a strong focus on improving structural geology comprehension, data collection and interpretation within the team.
•Coordinate the development of greenfield exploration programs that effectively test a portfolio of targets, and guide other team members in doing the same.
•Participate in property evaluations within in the district, developing relationships with companies active in the region, and monitoring land tenure for conceptual staking opportunities.
•Develop regional, target, and deposit-scale exploration models (lithology, structure, alteration, and mineralization).
•In collaboration with the Exploration Manager, ensure technical coaching for professional development purposes and proactive mentorship of junior staff.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
•A minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science; Post-graduate degree, an asset.
•8-10+ years’ experience in mineral exploration.
•Solid knowledge of orogenic gold deposit models.
•Experience developing geological models at both the deposit- and greenstone-belt scales.
•Regional scale targeting and exploration experience in Archean greenstone belts.
•An excellent understanding of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes as it pertains to the latest concepts of gold deposit environments.
•An ability to think across-scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets.
•A demonstrated commitment to safety, environment, and community.
•Experience working on a mine site, liaising with various mine departments while engaged in regional exploration activities.
•Experience supervising geological field and drilling campaigns and managing the exploration teams, contractors and support staff required to execute the programs.
•Experience developing, tracking and reporting on budgets using relevant software, experience using SAP an asset.
•A track record of talent development with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
•Shown to be self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities.
•Proficient with Leapfrog, GIS, and SQL databases.
•Registered as a Professional Geologist (PGO)
