We are seeking a skilled Excavator Operator with experience in brushing and roadway maintenance to join our construction crew. The operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating an excavator to clear brush, trees, and debris, maintain roadway ditches and slopes, and assist with general road maintenance activities.
- Operate excavators and related heavy equipment to perform brushing, ditch cleaning, slope grading, and debris removal along roadways.
- Perform safe and efficient clearing of vegetation, trees, and brush in designated areas.
- Assist with roadway maintenance tasks including culvert installation, ditch work, backfilling, and grading.
- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of equipment; report maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Follow all site safety protocols, traffic control procedures, and environmental protection requirements.
- Work collaboratively with ground crews, truck drivers, and supervisors to complete daily tasks.
- Maintain productivity standards while ensuring safety of self, crew, and the public.
- Perform minor routine maintenance on equipment as needed (lubrication, cleaning, fueling).
- Proven experience operating excavators in a construction or road maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated brushing experience (clearing brush, small trees, and vegetation using excavator attachments).
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices and traffic control requirements.
- Ability to read and follow site plans, supervisor instructions, and safety guidelines.
- Strong awareness of surroundings (overhead hazards, underground utilities, traffic).
- Must hold a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with other heavy equipment (dozers, graders, loaders, skid steers).
- Knowledge of DOT and OSHA safety standards.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment troubleshooting.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor as needed.
- Work in noisy, dusty, and uneven terrain environments.
