Position

Environmental Technician, Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Supervisor, Environment, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

- Conduct environmental monitoring and sampling as per permits, licenses, and company policies. Follow standard operating procedures to ensure compliance;

- Assist in terrestrial and aquatic field programs, perform on-site sample analysis using portable analyzers, and maintain detailed field notes following QA/QC protocols;

- Complete chain of custody forms, process, pack, and ship samples. Maintain and update environmental databases and records;

- Install, calibrate, and maintain environmental monitoring and sampling equipment to ensure accurate data collection;

- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, update documentation, and support regulatory reporting requirements;

- Assist with spill prevention, response efforts, and waste and water management programs to minimize environmental impact;

- Provide field and office support for environmental site operations, including lifting and transporting equipment like water samples, boats, and generators; and

- Follow Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and environmental commitments to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

- Three (3) years experience as an Environmental Technician, preferably in a remote mine or outdoor industrial setting;

- Post Secondary Diploma in Environmental related discipline or related field is required; Equivalent training and experience will also be considered;

- Experience with all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, helicopters, and boats, with the ability to work in extreme cold, high winds, and heavy precipitation;

- Experience in responding to wildlife related events (e.g., predatory animal response). Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) and Driver’s License; and

- Strong computer skills in data management, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $97,838.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $35.50 and overtime rate of $53.25) in a work year.
