The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Job Summary
Greenstone Gold Mines has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Superintendent to join our growing Environmental Team at one of the largest gold mines in Canada.
Reporting to the Environment and Social Responsibility Manager, the Environmental Superintendent (Compliance) will be responsible for leading a team of environmental professionals in maintain regulatory compliance with environmental laws, regulations and commitments, while ensure the site is operating in a way that is protective of the environment. The successful candidate will need strong communication and leadership skills along with a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental project management experience.
The successful candidate will work either a 4 days on / 3 days off or a 1 week on / 1 week off.
Key Responsibilities
•Lead a team of environmental professionals to comply with environmental permits, regulations and commitments to ensure environmental protection.
•Develop, implement and optimize environmental monitoring, sampling and inspection schedules.
•Assist in the development of environmental programs and practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
•Coordinate and participate in stakeholder consultation programs that include local communities, regulatory agencies and the public.
•Prepare and manage environmental correspondence, presentations, reports and other related documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
•Ensure project compliance with all environmental permits, licenses, government/agency regulations and other related legal agreements.
•Work collaboratively with different departments to develop policies and processes to meet environmental commitments.
•Develop field procedures and provide training on collecting samples and monitoring data outlined by environmental permits, regulations, and systems in accordance with sampling protocols.
•Lead by example and establish a safety culture through participation in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings.
•Participate in the development of the Greenstone Gold Mines Environmental Management System and conduct internal audits.
Required Experience and Skill Set
•10+ years of relevant work experience with preference to those with experience in the mining industry.
•5+ years in a supervisory role in an environmental field.
•Experience with environmental data management and report writing.
•Strong understanding of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and industry practices in Ontario.
•Strong sense of integrity, ethics, and desire to positively impact the environment.
