LCRA is seeking an entry- level professional to join our Transmission Line & Asset Engineering team as an Engineering Technician! In this role, you will engage in technical design, drafting, and provide engineering support. While possessing foundational knowledge in your field, this position provides a framework for acquiring higher-level skills through moderate supervision and direction from senior team members. - Read and interpret engineering drawings, construction drawings and other technical information.
- Use computer-aided design software and equipment to prepare detailed engineering drawings, maps and graphs from concept or provided materials. Make determinations related to scaling, reference plans, dimensioning, hidden lines, interpolations and sectioning positional relationships. Clearly indicate revisions. File drawings and drawing update documentation according to standard procedures.
- Assist in developing technical design concepts related to engineering by working from notes, sketches, oral instructions and discussions with design originators.
- Perform technical design tasks involving alterations to or variations in engineering designs. Interpret engineering designs for compliance with and conformance to established specifications, requirements and standards.
- Perform field and/or office research related to asset listings, field measurements, historical engineering drawings, equipment databases, microfilm, inventory, electronic document management system (EDMS) records and other technical records to design equipment and layouts; to produce equipment ratings and facility statistics; and to determine asset values and ownership. Field research may involve various physical activities.
- Prepare specifications, materials and fixed capital unit (FCU) lists.
- Provide support for project, budgeting and supply management activities. Assist with cost estimation, bid recommendations and writing project descriptions. Research work order issues and verify general ledger account strings.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and report results to engineer.
- Prepare reports related to projects, work plans, equipment, assets and budgets. Assist with preparing more complex reports.
- Operate equipment, such as plotters, printers, copiers and scanners.
- Maintain the departmental engineering database and perform data entry.
- Maintain and ensure control of engineering documents. Analyze all new documents to determine classification for drawings, technical manuals, engineering manuals and reports. Create and maintain other indices and files relating to department operations. Coordinate routing of and track location of various documents, drawings and prints.
- Perform field observations and inspections. Prepare and update as-built drawings based on field edits.
- Serve as internal and external point of contact for engineering-related information as needed.
- Gather engineering information by traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as necessary.
- One or more years of experience interpreting technical drawings/documents and performing technical analysis, drafting using computer-aided design software or other relevant experience. A degree in computer-aided design or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver's license if traveling independently to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.)
- Knowledge of electronic document management system (Meridian)
- Entry level skill in computer-aided drafting principles, standards, and techniques
- Entry level skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints
- Entry skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical information
- Skill in verbal and written communication
- Skill in operating plotters, printers, copiers and scanners
- Ability to perform accurate data entry
- Ability to work in a team environment
