Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Title: Engineer Assoc Company: Tampa Electric Company State and City: Florida - North Ruskin Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days


POSITION CONCEPT:

This entry level engineer position works under close supervision; receives specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and results expected; performs a variety of routine tasks which provide experience and familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, practices, procedures and programs of the company. Emphasis is on technical support and project leadership for forced, planned and unplanned unit outages and equipment maintenance in an effort to complete capital and O&M projects on schedule and within budget, to maximize plant performance and to minimize maintenance cost.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide project engineering support on assigned projects and provide technical support to the Engineering & Project Management team as required. Assist in monitoring ongoing work activities to confirm manufacturer/fabricator compliance to project plans, specifications and monitor/enforces compliance to all regulatory requirements.

- Assist in coordination of work with E&PM Construction, plant outage coordinators, station planners and on-site and off-site contractors

- Assist in coordination of Tampa Electric comments to consulting engineer and supplier documents –

- Assist E&PM engineering and construction personnel in developing Scope of Works, project schedules, and cost estimates

-Schedule and facilitate project team meetings/conference calls to maintain project schedules and costs -

- Supports Energy Supply power plants in identifying and solving O&M problems. Augment plant staff when needed to meet day-to-day and outage requirements

- Perform any other task as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Engineer.

EDUCATION:

Required: BS in electrical engineering from an accredited college. Preferred: Core competency in power systems, electrical distribution, and power generation.

LISCENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Required: N/A Preferred: FE or ability to obtain FE within 1 year of employment.

EXPERIENCE: Required: None Preferred: Co-Op experience (power generation, piping design and support system). Knowledge of mechanical equipment (valves, seals, pumps) operation and maintenance. Experience in the electric utility industry.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Required: Proficient experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point. Contributes to team effort by collaboration and accomplishments. Demonstrated teamwork and presentation skills. Demonstrated assignment and schedule adaptability (flexibility). High ownership, self-motivated and personal accountability. Preferred: Working knowledge of thermodynamic principles, heat transfer principles and project management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Travel from home office to TEC’s Big Bend, Bayside and Polk Power Stations expected and could be frequent.

Working outdoors in hot, humid, wet and/or cold conditions 25% to 50% of the work day

Working in a Power Generation facility up to 25% to 50% of the work day

Working conditions could include areas of elevated noise (hearing protection required) and confined space.

Working overtime and/or weekends possible

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:

Walking, bending, climbing 25% to 50% of the work day.

Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 50% of the work day.
