Join Avista as our next Energy Resources Credit Risk Manager, where you’ll lead critical efforts to manage credit exposure, negotiate credit terms for high-impact contracts, and support our dynamic energy trading operations.

Responsibilities
- Lead Credit Risk Strategy: Monitor counterparty exposure, negotiate collateral agreements, and manage margin calls to protect Avista’s capital.
- Analyze & Advise: Conduct in-depth financial analysis and recommend credit limits that balance risk and opportunity.
- Negotiate Contracts: Review, negotiate, and recommend wholesale energy contracts that align with market conditions and credit risk profiles.
- Support Business Growth: Provide credit guidance for utility retail operations, infrastructure developers, and long-term suppliers.
- Ensure Compliance: Oversee adherence to regulatory and contractual obligations, SEC disclosures and prepare reports for leadership and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate & Influence: Represent Avista in credit discussions with major counterparties and lead cross-functional initiatives to enhance risk management.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field required; advanced credentials preferred
- Expertise in credit risk frameworks, contract development, and energy/commodity markets strongly preferred
- Skilled in effective interpersonal skills and flexible written and verbal communication and negotiations
- Demonstrated ability to handle tight deadlines and address emerging issues related to energy commodities transactions and market operations that are significant to the corporation and its business decisions- 5+ years of relevant experience credit management or a related field such as financial analysis or risk
- Requires advanced understanding of all aspects of credit management and the ability to work effectively within the organization
- Working knowledge of contract development process and contract terms related to wholesale energy markets
- Proven ability to analyze financial statements, market data, and risk trends to inform decision making
- Knowledge of industry’s standards, practices, and market conditions- 7+ years of relevant experience credit management or a related field such as financial analysis or risk
- Requires the competence and skill to lead all aspects of credit management and represent the company with external parties
- In-depth working knowledge of credit analysis, contract development process and contract terms related to wholesale energy markets
- Demonstrated skill in negotiating credit positions with counterparties, interpersonal skill to manage corporate credit positions, proven track record to develop credit strategies that support corporate objectives
- Demonstrated negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills with experience influencing stakeholders at various levels
- Advanced level of technical expertise; initiative, ownership, and accountability; leadership, which can be demonstrated through directing the work of others, leading projects and/or processes, being the official or unofficial team lead
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. We are open to candidates with transferable skills in finance, banking, insurance, contracts, or risk management, and your expertise in complex, regulated, or transactional environments is valued.
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
