Summary: The Director of Energy Market Strategy will play a critical role in expanding the company’s portfolio of renewable and dispatchable energy assets. This position is responsible for identifying and advancing greenfield and M&A opportunities across solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and flexible thermal generation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of U.S. energy markets, utility procurement strategies, and interconnection processes. This role will support early-stage development, lead market assessments, structure and negotiate transactions, and contribute to origination strategies through bilateral channels and RFP processes. This is a cross-functional position that requires collaboration with internal development, finance, legal, and executive teams as well as engagement with external stakeholders including utilities, C&I customers, landowners, and counterparties.
Energy Market Strategy Director Duties and Responsibilities (Include but not limited to):
•Identify and evaluate greenfield development opportunities in priority markets across the U.S., leveraging IRP analysis, interconnection queues, policy trends, and market fundamentals..
•Source and assess M&A targets aligned with the company’s technology, geographic, and commercial strategy
•Build and maintain relationships with utilities (IOUs, munis, co-ops), C&I offtakers, and community stakeholders to support early-stage development and origination efforts.
•Support early development activities including land diligence, interconnection strategy, permitting pathways, and project risk assessments.
•Lead or support commercial activities including bilateral negotiations, RFP submissions, and power marketing efforts
•Collaborate with finance and legal teams to structure acquisition agreements, partnership frameworks, and hedge solutions to support project bankability
•Monitor regulatory and market developments impacting project economics and risk profile.
•Contribute to investment memoranda and internal presentations to secure executive approval for new development or acquisition initiatives.
•Represent the company at industry conferences, regulatory workshops, and customer meetings.
•Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of financial arrangements for utility-scale energy projects.
•Present financial strategies and opportunities to internal and external stakeholders.
•Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with projects.
Requirements:
Education/Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
•Minimum 8 years of experience in utility-scale energy strategy, project development, investment banking, consulting, or related roles.
•Demonstrated experience sourcing and advancing renewable energy and/or flexible generation projects.
•Deep familiarity with energy market dynamics, utility procurement (IRPs, RFPs), and interconnection processes across major ISOs/RTOs..
•Experience negotiating term sheets, acquisition agreements, and commercial contracts preferred.
•Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.

Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•Must be able to frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds.

Travel: As required; potential for overnights is < 10%
