JOB SUMMARY
The Energy Conservation Advisor, through customer engagement and consultative selling, is responsible for identifying target markets, understanding customer needs and interests around energy efficiency, and helping to identify opportunities within customer facilities. The role focuses on maximizing energy savings for commercial customers by employing strategies to effectively encourage participation in Electricity Demand Side Management (eDSM) programs and initiatives. The Energy Conservation Advisor works closely with Hydro Ottawa customers to maximize awareness and participation in energy efficiency initiatives and educates them on available programs and financial incentives. The Energy Conservation Advisor is also responsible for capturing customer insights to help inform future Electricity Demand Side Management (eDSM) strategies and Non-Wire Solution (NWS) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) opportunities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:
•Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, maintenance, improvement, monitoring, and reporting of an annual strategic eDSM plan to the business and IESO, including a tactical sales strategy that delivers on the achievement of eDSM goals and objectives.
•Interact with customers to ascertain energy efficiency needs and business drivers.
•Capture and share intelligence with internal stakeholders to assist with developing strategies that increase customer value or strengthen market share.
•Provide expertise and support to commercial customers regarding their electricity use and perform assessments, including on site consultations where appropriate, to identify, discuss, and evaluate potential simple energy efficiency and demand side management opportunities, as well as those requiring more comprehensive third party evaluation.
•Contribute towards Team GWh and GW target obligations and track and monitor progress towards them and prepare reports and projections as requested.
•Coordinate and assist with site inspections to confirm the various activities implemented for program reporting and compliance.
•Work with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, key accounts, asset planning, marketing and management) to design, develop, and deliver eDSM/DER/NWS business cases, pilots, programs, and/ or services, as well as contribute to advocacy work and the Hydro Ottawa cost of service application where necessary.
•Leverage internal data and metrics to identify and target potential customers for team engagement.
•Track customer insights learned during engagement to inform the development of new eDSM programs, DER or NWS development, as well as future business opportunities.
•Use productivity tools to support sales efforts and identify efficiencies in program delivery; populate
•Customer Relationship Management (CRM) - and where applicable, IESO systems - with customer information and keep key account coordinators apprised of important insights.
•Make presentations to internal and external stakeholders on programs and activities.
•Develop and cultivate industry and trade ally relationships to support Team Initiatives, through participation in industry associations, events and other appropriate channels.
•Address or direct customer issues to minimize brand risk and increase customer satisfaction while respecting governance and program compliance.
•Ensure customer applications comply with applicable program requirements.
•Participate in applicable working groups and committees (IESO, NRCan, OEB), and collaborate with other LDCs on relevant projects, as required.
•Assist with preparing responses to internal and external audits.
•Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Post-secondary education in business, engineering, or environmental studies, or other related field such as building system technology
•Minimum 3 years relevant work experience with consulting, technical sales, account management, or project management; experience with utilities, demand side management, or energy technologies preferred)
•Experience in business development or account management, proposal and report writing
•Experience analyzing and managing program metrics
•Experience developing market strategies
•Process mapping experience
•Experience in electricity utilization, energy management and building systems (i.e. lighting, motors, building controls and HVAC systems)
•Advanced Energy Training (CEM or similar) certification required within 1 year of employment
•Program development or program management experience considered an asset
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Valid driver’s license – Class G - with access to a personal vehicle for use (Mileage Reimbursed)
•English essential, both oral and written
•Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
