JOB TITLE: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN
LOCATION: BANGOR
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT MANAGER OF ENGINEERING

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Manager of Engineering, this position will support the Engineering Department in all aspects of electrical communications, system maintenance, procurement, commissioning, and work package production.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Understand one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams for area of Engineering Communications focus.
•Assist Project Management, where applicable, including fiscal control, reporting and closing of projects.
•Understand the use of technical test equipment and oversight of the associated data and results.
•Interact with area field personnel, providing technical oversight and assistance as needed.
•Understanding of applicable standards and regulations per specific focus area of Electrical Engineering Communications.
•Ability to develop solutions per system needs.
•Ability to work collaboratively with Engineers, PST and other departments.
•Understanding basic electrical theory and the application to a Power Utility.
•Purchasing and maintenance recommendations for Electrical Communications equipment.
•Print (drawings) package production in AutoCAD from conceptual to field work package related to Electrical Communications.
•Other related duties as may be assigned to an Electrical Communications Technician.
Focus Areas: Electrical Communications
•Assist in gathering material specifications, cost estimates, justification and procurement for capital projects driven by customers or internal capital requests for sub stations, communications sites and AMI infrastructure.
•Travel to various company communication sites throughout the state to determine best method of establishing and maintaining communications such as fiber, radio, DIGI or other.
•Perform fiber optic network testing, troubleshooting and splicing.
•Perform system maintenance for communications systems including microwave, SONET, radio and DIGI.
•Work with vendors on all equipment and components related to electrical communication system.
•Provide information to Legal Department in the development and administration of various lease agreements, such as communication site leases and fiber leases with other companies.
•Perform radio propagation and path execution.
•Install and commission communication circuits over ICON and JMUX SONET networks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Associate degree, or in lieu of, 5+ years of experience in electrical communications or related field.
•2+ years of experience with fiber optic networks.
•Experience with PC-based software including Excel, AutoCAD, Word and PowerPoint.
•Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards.
•Maine driver’s license required.

•Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
•Able to deal with ambiguity, among multiple projects and competing priorities.
NOTES:
•Position requires sitting, standing, driving, and walking on uneven terrain.
•Position requires frequent travel within service territory for site inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting.
•Position requires concentration and strong organizational skills.

•Usual work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required.
•Other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration.
RATE OF PAY:
Salary Level is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
