The Rathdrum Power Plant is a 275 MW combined-cycle natural gas-fired project that commenced commercial operations in September 2001 and is tolled under a long-term agreement to Avista. The tolling agreement expires in October 2041. Rathdrum's equipment configuration is platformed on GE 7FA technology, along with a heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine. The project includes an SCR and is a recent vintage, environmentally compliant project.
Opportunity Summary
The Electrical Technician ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems at the Rathdrum Power Plant, a combined-cycle facility. This role involves installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing critical electrical equipment such as motors, generators, transformers, control systems, and water treatment instrumentation. The technician maintains electrical systems, including switchyard components, and diagnoses and calibrates advanced control circuits. Responsibilities include supporting planned outages, performing electrical isolations, enforcing safety compliance, and maintaining accurate documentation. The role also involves ongoing training to qualify as an Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician. It requires prompt emergency response and collaboration within a safety-focused team to uphold plant performance and reliability.
Your scope of responsibility as Electrical Technician includes the following primary functions:

Working Relationships
The Electrical Technician reports directly to the Plant Manager. This role involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The regular work schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek during standard day shift hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $37.93 to $53.17 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.

We are seeking a qualified Electrical Technician with hands-on experience in power generation operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and a track record of contributing effectively within a team environment to support reliable plant performance.
Ability to understand and follow procedures related to electrical systems, typically demonstrated by a high school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in electrical technology, power plant electrical systems, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent industry or military electrical experience may be accepted on a year-for-year basis.
Previous experience as a Journeyman Electrician or relevant military background, preferably in power plant or heavy industrial settings, demonstrating a solid foundation in electrical systems.
Extensive hands-on experience with electrical systems up to 230KV, including maintenance and troubleshooting of switchyard equipment, combined with a strong knowledge of electrical safety practices and regulatory compliance.
Proficient in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing a wide range of electrical equipment—including motors, generators, transformers, switches, turbine control systems, and advanced control circuits such as backup fuel, load shedding, unit tripping, and transfer circuits.
Skilled in commissioning and calibrating control valves and transmitters for temperature, pressure, and level.
Demonstrated expertise performing corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on electrical equipment, utilizing testing tools like meggers and following industry-standard diagnostic procedures.
Experienced in conducting electrical system isolations according to industry standards and delivering electrical safety training.
Proficient in using personal computers for documentation, communication, and data analysis related to maintenance and plant operations.
Ability to understand plant-specific procedures and instructions, with strong organizational skills.
