Job Summary: As part of a comprehensive co-op work placement opportunity, this position is responsible for assisting electric distribution personnel in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and documentation of the HBPW’s electric distribution system. This is technical utility work in the utility-scale delivery of electricity to end-use customers. This position works under the general supervision of Electric Distribution personnel.
- Design, detail, and prepare projects, work orders, material lists, and construction drawings for extension of overhead and underground electric lines. Update all computer-based drawings, GIS Pro, and databases during planning and when project is completed.
- Perform field work and basic surveying for development of work orders and provide on-site construction management and inspection to ensure design specifications are met as needed.
- Develop planning/design procedures, specifications, and documentation.
- Under general instruction, perform independently with minimal supervision to achieve daily objectives and address critical/complex assignments.
- Propose solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
- Work with other internal departments as needed, which includes the line crew, stakers, and O&M Departments.
- Work with a contractor assessing electric pole conditions and reviewing attachees and updating NJUIN tickets.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Over the age of eighteen.
- Must have, or must arrange for, personal transportation necessary for reliable workplace attendance.
- Must be enrolled in, and remain enrolled in, an accredited high school or college program.
- Basic computer skills, including basic word processing and spreadsheet skills.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate positively and effectively with other organizational personnel and customers.
- Prior employment experience, preferably in a physical job (for example, landscaping, agriculture, custodial, etc.).
- Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents – 5, Applied Math – 5, Graphic Literacy – 5).
