The UPS Rental Trailer Construction Technician is responsible for the conversion of various size trailer equipment into a mobile battery driven backup power source. This will include all phases of the construction process that will require multiple trade skills sets with an emphasis on electricity. Installation skills would include such items as, 3 phase 480 volt installations to equipment and motors, 120 volt circuit installations, lighting installations and control panel wiring. This includes start-up of project, working from plans, blueprints & schematics that begins with an empty trailer to a fully furnished and operational mobile UPS power system ready for deployment. In addition to start ups, the technician will be responsible for repairs and refurbishing the equipment.
Working from job order, plan, layout, wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, battery racks and control equipment.
Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints.
Analyzes project electrical needs and determine design is adequate.
Measures, properly mounts and installs assigned battery racks, cable trays and wire trays, conduit, electrical tray, wires and devices
Measure, cut bend, thread assemble and install electrical conduit using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender.
Splices wire by stripping insulation from terminal leads with electrical knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by helper. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit- breaker panels, and fastens in place.
Connects power cables to power equipment such as battery racks, electrical motors, switch gears transformers and installs grounding leads.
Tests continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as VOM, Megger, Amp Meter, etc.
Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
Inspect and test components of electrical systems, including transformers, transfer switches and switch gears.
Disassembles and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems.
Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies.
Complete work orders and record material utilized on jobs.
Remain in compliance with current National Electric Code
Maintains work area in a clean and safe condition.
Drives a DOT regulated commercial vehicle, loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
Complies with company and OSHA safety policies and regulations as well as NFPA70E
Must participate and successfully complete all training as required by the company.
High School diploma, trade or military tech school preferred, coupled with 5+ years of experience as a commercial/industrial electrician/multi skills ability. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and handle multiple priorities and projects. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Demonstrable knowledge and skills for electrical installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Experience with construction safety, lockout/tagout, lift truck operations. Ability to work in a team environment effectively. Must have a valid
driver’s license with a good driving record and meet DOT regulations requirements. Ability to work independently. Displays strong written and oral communication skills and employs effective listening skills. Tactful and mature demeanor. Good computer skills using Microsoft Office and ability to learn company applicable software applications.
