The Electric System Manager is responsible for operating and maintaining the City of Lexington electric distribution system in an economical, efficient, safe, and reliable manner as contracted for in the Operating Agreement with the City. This includes managing and administering the Operating Agreement and other contracts and agreements necessary for the operation and maintenance of the City’s electric distribution system, along with constructing, installing, operating, and maintaining the City’s electric distribution system. The division is located in the Lexington Operations Center.
•Manages the operation and maintenance of Lexington’s electric distribution system, ensuring compliance with the Operating Agreement and relevant contracts.
•Oversees daily electric system functions including construction, maintenance scheduling, meter operations, and procurement of materials and equipment.
•Leads and supervises electric operations staff, promoting professional development and adherence to safety, operational, and administrative policies.
•Collaborates with the City Manager and staff on strategic planning, budget development, retail rate projections, and long-term system planning.
•Identifies and implements capital projects and funding strategies in line with city directives and operational needs.
•Serves as liaison with Lexington City Council, City leadership, and the public, communicating on key issues including rates, reliability, planning, and development.
•Builds cooperative relationships with other ElectriCities managers, Duke Energy, co-ops, and member cities to share resources and improve services.
•Advocates for and educates stakeholders on ElectriCities’ programs and public power benefits.
•Monitors legislative developments affecting electric operations and ensures compliance with applicable laws and standards.
•Oversees personnel functions and general operations of the Lexington Operations Center.
•Ensures all reporting and regulatory requirements are met, including governmental accounting, procurement laws, and electric reliability standards.
•Performs additional duties as needed to support reliable and efficient electric service delivery.
Qualifications
•A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
•A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in a municipal electrical utility environment, which includes extensive experience in electric utility management. An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
•A designation as a licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
