Department: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Reports To: EHS Supervisor
The Safety Shift Specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and monitoring health and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role plays a critical part in promoting a culture of safety and minimizing workplace hazards through inspections, training, reporting, and risk assessment.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports and root cause analyses.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, trainings, incidents, and compliance activities.
- Facilitate employee safety training programs, including new hire orientation, ongoing education, and emergency response drills.
- Collaborate with operations, HR, and management teams to ensure safety standards are integrated across departments.
- Monitor and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
- Lead or support safety committee meetings and initiatives.
- Stay current on regulations, industry trends, and best practices in health and safety.
- Partner with shift leadership to address unsafe behaviors or conditions in a proactive manner
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in a safety or EHS role, preferably in manufacturing- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable regulations.
- Excellent communication, training, and documentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS software platforms.
- Comfortable working across all areas of the facility and shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
- Certification preferred:
- Regular exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb ladders, and wear PPE for extended periods.
- Some travel may be required between worksites or for training.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 or other management system standards.
Experience with incident tracking or safety audit software.
