The Drilling and Blasting/Stripping Manager is responsible for managing and directing the Drilling, Blasting, and Stripping programs across GA, including construction materials and

quarry locations. Key areas of responsibility include providing drilling and blasting/stripping strategy as the Subject Matter Expert with multi-drilling, multi-blasting, and stripping plan management experience. The Drilling and Blasting/Stripping Manager will be expected to drive a consistent approach and continuous improvement to safety, community relations, and internal customer support, and create strategic plans and manage initiative prioritization for the South Division Drilling, Blasting, and Stripping strategy. Additionally, works within a team-based organization supported by safety, health, environmental, finance, human resources, community and governmental relations, legal, marketing, procurement, logistics, information technology, and engineering.

What You’ll Do Promote Safety.

Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all drilling and blasting efforts result in zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with all ATF, MSHA, State, and Local Agency requirements related to explosives storage and handling.

Manage Employee Relations.

Manage five direct reports providing strong leadership, training, team building, and supervision to all drilling and blasting employees to support the drilling and blasting function for the Central Division; guide all recruitment, training, development, and retention strategies for employees.

Technical Guidance.

Provide blasting design expertise, guidance, and approval. Develop and assess shot designs providing safe, efficient, and productive blasting results. Provide drilling technical expertise and planning.

- Implement and sustain a cost-effective blasting program that improves pit and front-end costs, including loading and hauling, while ensuring the safety of all personnel.

- Utilize mine planning resources to integrate blasting, haulage profiles, and development to maximize long-term efficiency and safety

- Create computer-driven blast design and modeling

- Manage drill and striping fleet

Maintain Compliance.

Ensure that all South Division drilling, blasting, and stripping programs are in compliance with Vulcan’s safety, environmental, operations policies, and procedures. Work closely with regulatory agencies through the ASEE and ISEE to maintain positive relationships.

Manage Process Improvement.

Direct process improvement goals and objectives supporting South Division drilling, blasting, and striping initiatives to meet safety, productivity, and efficiency goals; establish and measure performance standards.

- Continue evaluating internal and external resources used for the D&B and Stripping programs to ensure we achieve the lowest cost per ton and implement changes when recognized.

- Work with procurement resources to safely achieve the lowest cost per ton

Advisor.

Liaison and advisor for third-party shot and explosion services/product suppliers. Interface, oversight, and coordination responsibilities with external contract drillers. Assist operations, third-party seismic consultants, and safety representatives in the resolution of all blasting-related issues.

Support Community Relations Representative with all inquiries involving blasting related incidents and development of recommendations to prevent future issues or recurrences.

Coach and Guide Others.

Provide strong leadership skills by motivating and providing mentorship to all employees, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Build and lead a team that uses data to drive pit efficiency improvements.

Skills You’ll Need Education

. High School Diploma required. BS / BA degree, Associates degree, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience preferred.

Experience.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in processing and maintenance. One (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred. Construction materials industry experience preferred.

Leadership and Management Skills

. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.

Operational Knowledge.

Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.

Interpersonal Skills

. Ability to work in a stressful, deadline-oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making. Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Working Conditions.

The work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. In the office, employees will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station. In the outside setting, employees will perform activities in unprotected heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to industrial conditions; may be required to use hand tools or power tools. The outside setting will expose employees to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces.

Computer Skills

. Ability to use computerized equipment and technology.

Physical Requirements. Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Travel Requirements

. Travel required: 10%.
