The Driller is responsible for daily safe and responsible operation of the drill, related equipment and the safety and guidance of drill crew. This includes equipment moves, set up and facilitate the preparation of the blast area at the job site under the direction of the Drill Foreman or area management. Job is Mon thru Fri with typical shift 10 to 12 hrs. per day, with some weekends required as needed to meet production needs.
- Responsible for working with customers to prep blast area for next shot pattern
- Performs the shot layout provided by the customer and designated shot pattern provided by APC management.
- Determines the setting of drill controls and depth and diameter of blast holes.
- Drills blast holes.
- Monitors drill controls and the progress of the drilling operation and reports daily to the Foreman.
- Completes necessary logs and records as per Austin Powder policy.
- Perform pre and post shift inspections of the drill and related equipment to ensure safe operation. May perform maintenance on drills.
- Reports any issues or concerns with equipment to foreman or proper APC management
- Maintains appropriate levels of skills / knowledge of equipment / vehicle operation.
- Reports equipment, employee or customer issues to Foreman and/or APC management.
- Develops and maintains positive and professional work relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors and government agencies.
- Displays work behaviors that are professional, honest and ethical in purist of Austin Powder Company business goals.
- Complies with Austin Powder Company Safety and management procedures.
- Follows and maintains compliance with all MSHA and agency requirements
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by assuring regulatory compliance at the location, customer sites, and during transit.
- Completes and maintains accurate, legible paperwork as required by company policies and procedures, Department of Transpiration, or other federal or state agencies.
May perform any of the marginal functions, duties, and responsibilities listed below.
- Assist or perform the duties of Load/Plant Crew.
- Assist or perform the duties of Shot Service Crew.
- Experience operating down the hole or top hammer drills
- Preferred experience with Epiroc platform and Kelly Bar drill setup but not required.
- Preferred experience in quarry or mining operations but not required.
- Must be 21 as required by the ATF
- Must be able to meet ATF requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product bulletins, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to identify products by sight
- Ability to speak effectively with employees and customers.
- Outdoor climate and terrain. Exposure to dust, noise, oils, greases, and other debris.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is also required to stand; sit; use hands to operate controls, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
- Able to lift and handle 40-60 pounds and handle large tools required for bit change outs. Location
