Position Summary:
The Distribution Fieldman plays a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and enhancing the water distribution system to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, clean, and reliable drinking water to customers. This position requires physical labor, the use of various tools and heavy equipment, and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to support efficient field operations. Additionally, this position assists in the regulatory compliance and efficient operations of the District.
Essential Functions:

Water System Maintenance & Repairs:
•Perform routine and emergency work on the water distribution system, including:
•Valve operation and replacement
•Water service line installation and replacement
•Fire hydrant repair and replacement
Equipment & Tool Operation:
•Operate District vehicles and heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, bobcats, and dump trucks.
•Use power tools (e.g., jackhammers, saws) and hand tools to complete field tasks.
•Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Job Site Preparation & Restoration:
•Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
•Restore roads, yards, and other impacted areas to original or improved condition upon completion of work.
•Assist with preparation and inventory of field components such as double yokes, risers, and pressure regulators.
Communication & Customer Interaction:
•Provide courteous, professional communication with the public regarding service interruptions, updates, or project timelines.
•Escalate customer concerns, complaints, or service issues to the appropriate internal personnel.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
•Complete job assignments under the direction of the Crew Lead, Specialist, or Foreman.
•Coordinate with other departments and city authorities for traffic control, road closures, and salting when necessary.
•Communicate any operational issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
Policy & Safety Compliance:
•Follow all District policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
•Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and actively participate in safety programs.
Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or GED required.
•Prior experience in construction, utilities, or a related field preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
•Proficiency in the safe use of hand tools and heavy machinery.
•Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•Basic reading, writing, and math abilities.
•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
•Basic computer literacy.
•Commitment to customer service and respectful, professional conduct.
Licensing/Certifications:
•Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred; must be obtained within six months of employment.
•Class IV Distribution License or willingness to obtain when eligible.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This is a physically demanding position that includes frequent activities such as climbing, kneeling, crouching, pushing, lifting (up to 125 pounds), and working in confined or elevated spaces. Work is primarily outdoors and may be performed in varying weather and environmental conditions, including exposure to:
•Extreme heat or cold, wetness, humidity, and slippery/muddy surfaces.
•Loud noise, vibration, and airborne particles.
•Hazards such as moving machinery, chemicals, excavation zones, and vehicle emissions.
Must be available for extended hours, overtime, and emergency response duties as needed.
