Summary
The Director, Risk Management is responsible for leading and developing the corporate risk and insurance programs, coordinating and implementing risk management activities at the plant and corporate level, controlling insurance expenses, maintain existing and build new relationships with brokers and insurance companies, and to improve overall risk awareness at the Company. This individual is also responsible for addressing all insured claims against the Company, including the management of complex and high-value claims, and for providing guidance and support to other areas of the Company in the management of claims. The Director, Risk Management reports to the General Counsel. This is a full-time exempt position located in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities
•Develop the risk financing and retention strategies for the Company’s property, casualty, employment practices, environmental, unplanned outages, cyber liability and executive risks by working with executive leadership to establish and quantify the organization's risk appetite.
•Evaluate, recommend and implement alternative risk financing tools as insurance market and economy changes.
•Manage all insured claims and make recommendations and decisions as to the Company’s liability exposure.
•Regularly review, measure, and report claim performance for compliance with standards and work towards continual improvement in Total Cost of Risk.
•Apply effective risk management processes and strong causal analysis to reduce claim outcomes.
•Provide strategic information to senior line management in the identification, analysis, and outcome of claims, and report to relevant stakeholders on key areas of claims investigations and resolutions to allow for consideration of corrective actions that may mitigate future losses.
•Maintain and develop relationships with insurers/underwriters, brokers, and other third-party service providers.
•Negotiate all insurance and claim management terms and conditions, inclusive of financing arrangements, collateral and escrow on all paid loss/incurred loss programs.
•Coordinate all risk control engineering site visits with outside engineers.
•Track and update on all risk control engineering recommendations.
•Serve as the Company’s internal resource for all issues pertaining to risk, claims management, and insurance.
•Provide subject matter expertise to internal teams as it relates to the organization’s contractual risk transfer program and philosophy; including the oversight of the organization’s certificate of insurance program.
Basic Qualifications
•Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in internal risk management, insurance, or brokerage.
Preferred Qualifications
•Graduate degree and/or legal degree.
•Industry certifications.
•Ability to quickly evaluate risk and insurance information, identify key issues, and formulate conclusions based on sound, practical judgement, experience, and common sense.
•Organized, dependable, and proactive.
•Team builder, building cooperative working relationships across all areas of the company, including senior management, finance, HR, EHS, and local plant leadership.
•Strong balance of analytical and communication skills.
•Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team in a professional and confident manner and provide coaching and mentoring to customers and stakeholders.
