Position Summary
The Director of Materials Management is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, inventory control, material handling, and logistics operations to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain. This role ensures alignment with production needs, cost efficiency, and inventory optimization, supporting company objectives for quality, on-time delivery, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Leadership
•Develop and execute the overall materials strategy, including sourcing, procurement, and inventory control.
•Lead and mentor a team of material planners, buyers, warehouse staff, and logistics personnel.
•Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, finance, and quality teams to forecast material needs and coordinate production planning.
•Identify cost-saving opportunities in the supply chain and negotiate strategic supplier partnerships.
Supply Chain Operations
•Direct the planning and procurement of raw materials, components, and supplies to meet production schedules.
•Implement and maintain best practices for demand planning, material requirements planning (MRP), and just-in-time (JIT) inventory management.
•Ensure accurate and timely inventory reporting and optimization to minimize excess and obsolete stock.
•Oversee logistics to ensure timely inbound and outbound shipments, reduce lead times, and improve delivery reliability.
Process Improvement & Compliance
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies to reduce waste and improve process efficiency.
•Establish and monitor KPIs for vendor performance, inventory accuracy, and delivery timelines.
•Ensure all operations are compliant with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO, industry-specific certifications).
Systems & Reporting
•Work with IT and ERP teams to enhance and maintain MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
•Develop reports and dashboards to support executive decision-making on material performance and supply chain health.
•Analyze material trends and forecast risks related to supply disruptions or cost increases.
Qualifications
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience
•10+ years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or logistics, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
•Experience in a manufacturing or industrial production environment is essential.
Skills
•Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
•Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to manage cross-functional teams and projects in a fast-paced setting.
Working Conditions
•Primarily office-based with regular visits to production floors, warehouses, and vendor sites.
