PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for supporting the development and commercialization of projects for potential customers requiring a multi-commodity energy solution including natural gas, power generation, electric transmission, hydrogen, CO2 capture and sequestration, fiber optics, and water. The position requires strong financial acumen, strategic mindset, creative thought process, and contribution to key decision making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Develop business in support of origination efforts; identifying and originating transactions which will bring value to the Company.
•Interface with commodity development teams across Tallgrass, working with them to incorporate specific needs within the broader business opportunity.
•Identify and pursue acquisition candidates that fit into Tallgrass’ business strategy. Develop creative restructuring of those candidates that are not an exact fit.
•Support all aspects of the deal-making process including analysis, due diligence, risk mitigation, negotiating, and closing. Develop customized transactions that address the needs of a variety of customers through the use of company resources.
•Provide strategic input and execution support for the structuring of power off-take agreements within various state and utility regulatory environments.
•Creation of sophisticated and robust financial models that will influence multi-billion-dollar investment decisions.
•Support end-to-end development of power generation facilities, including commercialization and risk analysis and mitigation and provide input on site selection, technology selection, permitting, engineering, and construction.
•Negotiate contract terms and generate agreements for legal review and execution.
•Identify and market/restructure Tallgrass assets not performing to expectations.
•Analyzes U.S. supply/demand fundamentals as well as pricing and market trends in various regions across the country.
•Develop strong knowledge of business strategy, competitors and operations.
•Maintains an awareness of changing market conditions, new developments, and competitor strategies.
•Consult with senior management regarding market trends and their impact on the performance of Tallgrass’ assets.
•Promote Tallgrass business services through active participation in industry groups developing standards and promoting the industry in general.
•Market existing and new services by developing customer base. Originate and evaluate opportunities to leverage current assets.
•Establish effective internal and external working relationships to ensure effective operation, financial performance and development of assigned business assets.
•Scrutinize activities of competitors, identifying risks to the Company’s financial performance and develop counter-measures to protect the bottom line.
•Further relationships with customers by assisting with additional services to enhance services offered by Tallgrass.
•Implement the recommendations of the strategic marketing plan and provide market research and analysis.
•Define company strategy for the organization including target customers and applications, competition, pricing, market trends, supplier development and alliances.
•Develop and maintain relationships at target customers.
•Assist in or produce feasibility studies/business plans for new business opportunities.
•Develop marketing campaigns and power point presentations for new business opportunities. This includes formulating a specific budget and expenditure plan for each as well as development of rates and offering
•Effectively work with Engineering, Project Management and Operations departments to ensure customer requirements are achieved and aligned with proposals.
•Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
•Communicate with management on goals and objectives on a regular and consistent basis.
•Foster a positive open work environment, system approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks.
•Demonstrate and enforce the highest professional integrity, ethics and safety discipline.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Economics, Marketing, Engineering or a related discipline.

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
•Minimum five (5) years’ experience actively working in the energy industry, specifically in project development or support roles.
•Knowledge of RTOs/ISOs, electric service territories, and the structural organization of U.S. electricity markets, including transmission planning, market participation, and interconnection processes.
•Knowledge of Federal (e.g. FERC), state, and local regulatory frameworks related to electricity and power infrastructure, including permitting, compliance, and reporting requirements.
•Knowledge of the development and commercialization of large-scale power plants and power projects, including hands-on experience in power plant development.
•Understanding of the energy industry, with the ability to effectively communicate critical items to leadership.
•Experience in power purchase agreements for large-scale power consumers (e.g. data centers, industrial facilities) from the power provider and/or power consumer perspective.
•Experience with behind the meter and front of the meter power projects and the key items for consideration for contracting purposes.
•Effective communication with customers.
•Successful track record of supporting the strategic selling and managing of complex and challenging negotiations.
Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Compensation:
The annual salary range for this position will be $175,000 - $225,000/yr.
