The Director, General Services plans, directs and manages the activities of the General Services Department, which consists of the following areas: Fleet Services, Materials Management, Real Estate, Records Management, and Sustainability & Support Services. The Director ensures that the General Services Department is aligned with WSSC Water’s vision, mission and strategic plans.
- Directs the effective management of the General Services Department
- Ensures the operational readiness of the vehicle & mobile equipment fleet, the effectiveness of fleet preventive maintenance, State mandated inspections; vehicular emissions testing and schedules
- Monitors the administration of the annual Commission-wide vehicular/equipment inventory and fueling infrastructure and ensures compliance with Federal and state EPA requirements
- Oversees general support services such as printing, mail and courier services, office supplies, food service and vending contracts and furniture inventory and distribution
- Provides oversight of the operation and maintenance of WSSC Water’s warehousing system including monitoring materials specifications and quality control of the Commission’s inventory
- Manages the Commission’s inventory of real property, including purchase, lease or sales of property
- Oversees WSSC Water’s records management and retention program, and ensures efficient records management services such as library, microfilming, imaging, and archival storage
- Oversees WSSC Water’s efforts regarding environmental sustainability and stewardship including managing its recycling program; developing requirements that will make WSSC Water facilities Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDS) compliant; and coordinates Commission efforts regarding energy conservation
- Supervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination.
Work is performed in business casual office environment.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of property management, materials management, fleet management, real estate management, records management, emergency management, security and/or sustainability
- Ability to direct and coordinate complex/diverse organizational programs
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to effectively communicate and make presentations to a wide variety of audiences
- Ability to exercise judgment in a myriad of support service issues
- Ability to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels and the public

- Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years’ experience in materials management, real estate or property management, fleet management, security and/or sustainability
- 5+ years’ senior management experience in a public organization.
