This full time direct hire Designer Technician role requires a minimum of one year of experience with utility planning and/or design for electric and gas facilities to support our client who is a major utility in San Diego. Successful candidates will be trained to gain experience applying Electric and Gas Standards and engineering principles, to create safe, accurate, and reliable construction orders. Under close mentorship, Designer Technicians will learn the skills to utilize industry tools to design additions and modifications to utility infrastructure. - Assist in developing technical designs for new additions/modifications to electric and gas facilities that support utility projects
- Create and oversee the development of construction orders based on company’s policies, safety and government regulations
- Utilize engineering calculations to develop designs for cost effective construction orders
- Perform system analysis, verify sizing of additions to existing system, and coordinate fusing requests/planning worksheets to determine required design details
- Attend field visits with customers, contractors, construction team, client representative and government agencies
- Comply with safety requirements and policies (e.g., OSHA, NEC, PPE, etc.)
- Implement designs that follow utility and construction standards
- Prepare preliminary and detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for customer requirements
- Analyze design deliverables for accuracy and provide comments to ensure they meet engineering guidelines/standards
- Support customer needs as they arise, through effective written and oral communication
- Minimum of one year of experience with designing for electric and gas projects, experience working with wet utilities may also be acceptable
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred, equivalent construction related experience may be acceptable
- Experience in the design of both overhead and underground distribution configuration is preferred
- Utilize personal vehicle to attend meetings and field investigations
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain normally found at construction sites to access utility facilities not accessible by vehicles
- Required to lift file boxes or field equipment up to 30lbs occasionally as needed
- Must be skilled in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams)
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, SharePoint, SAP, O'Calc is preferred
- Must be eligible to work in the US
- Must have a valid driver’s license
