Job Purpose
Design technicians are the primary source for detailed engineering drawings as well as surface/solid models used in the production of company products. Design technicians craft detailed and intelligent design specifications through joint communication with engineering management, design engineers, and quality personnel. Design technicians also maintain all engineering drawings to assure that this documentation is accurate and up to date utilizing the company engineering change request and notification system.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Develop and maintain product designs
•Work with engineering management and staff to produce detailed solid model designs as well as detailed product drawings. Drawings will include but are not limited to all dimensional requirements as well as linear and geometric tolerancing.
•Maintain up to date design documentation
•Design changes are reviewed with engineering management as well as design engineers through internal requests as well as external requests using the engineering change request (ECR) system.
•Design changes are made and documented using the engineering change notification (ECN) system.
•Reviewing customer purchase order versus quote for completeness and accuracy.
•Create General Arrangement drawing in SolidWorks when required on purchase order.
•Create new 3-D CAD models for special option layouts when necessary.
•Create new or review existing Inventory Items in ERP system that are required to produce the product from the purchase order.
•Generate bills of material for the required product.
•Create Labor Routings for top level BOM’s if new.
•Assure that all parts and components within a BOM are designed and accurately documented.
•Create test reports to accompany the BOM through the assembly process per customer requirement.
•Create shop floor packet for each separate PO line item including sales order, pressure test reports, and any required drawings or supplemental information required for production.
•Administer design material
•Provide design information to application engineers to aid in product implementation and specification in current and future installations.
•Provide design information for sales personnel to aid in securing current and future sales contracts.
•Provide design documentation and information to purchasing to aid in the procurement of product.
•Provide design documentation and information to manufacturing to aid in the assembly and production of product.
•Facilitate testing as well as research and development
•Assist production testing when needed
•Support research and development activities
Qualifications
•Associate’s degree in engineering technology preferred
•Competent understanding of algebra and geometry
•Working knowledge of common drawing practices as well as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
•Strong communication skills
•Must work in multifunctional groups
•2-5 years of experience in using SolidWorks or similar software in a professional setting.
Physical requirements
Position requires extended periods of time sitting using a computer and concentration.
