Charter Steel is hiring a Demand Planning Manager!
This role is responsible for understanding customer requirements and analyzing, generating, and executing a 12–24-month demand plan to meet those requirements using economic indicators, industry trends and intrinsic methods. This plan will be measured against actual performance. In addition, this role will be responsible for team structure and implementing a demand planning tool with selected vendor.
What you'll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or Business Administration or related degree
- Seven plus years’ experience in Demand Planning or other related Supply Chain management positions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of demand planning/forecasting software
- Expert level proficiency in use of MS Excel
- Possess technical database management skills and experience with statistical modeling
- Knowledge of CPFR process to help implement for key accounts
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
- Superior ability to collaborate and negotiate
- Self-motivated and enthusiasm to drive day to day analysis requirements
- Likes to challenge status quo and thrives in a rapidly changing environment
- A certification in Forecasting or Supply Chain Management from APICS or the Institute of Business Forecasting
- Prior work experience or training in the application of data science, advanced analytics, statistics, or applied mathematics to demand forecasting models
- Prior experience in the successful implementation of demand forecasting and planning tools
- Structure a strong team to support transformation within the business with an ability to proactively action against gaps
- Lead transformation on the team – specifically moving from excel based forecasting to implementing a strong system with selected vendor
- Partner with Data Scientists to create a baseline algorithm
- Attend meeting with customers to assist in articulating forecasts and influence the outcome of said forecast
- Prepare a monthly forecast for all customers that meets the timing of the demand planning calendar
- Facilitate demand planning meetings reaching a consensus across marketing and commercial on a tonnage forecast to be utilized for all forms of business planning (Sales, Operations, Commercial, etc.). This includes participating in the monthly demand planning meeting including agenda, exceptions reports, and performance feedback measurements along with following an established process for issue resolution and escalation
- Ability to discuss financial ramifications of forecast changes
- Collaborate with Inventory Analyst to ensure adequate inventory is in the pipeline to meet demands
- Work with procurement to ensure raw material needs are visible for purchasing
- Work with transportation/warehousing to ensure any increase in demand can be met
- Collaborate with SC partners to resolve supply and demand misalignments
- Effectively articulate any adjustments of the forecast off the business plan
- Partner with Data Scientists to create a baseline algorithm
- Generation of statistical forecasts – Evaluate the historical accuracy of statistical baseline forecasts and adjust to ensure forecasting models provide the best possible baseline forecasts
- Performance Measuring – Create, execute, and evaluate performance measurements and exception reports at a customer level. Determine forecast adjustments required to improve forecasting to at least target levels.
- Provide suggestions for additional measurements and reporting that may help improve forecast accuracies and leads continuous improvement to forecasting process to minimize forecast error
- Collaborate with the marketing and commercial teams to gather input on future sales that cannot be derived using history. This will include implementing and utilizing standard work processes for collecting customer intelligence on significant changes in demand behavior and accounting for product life cycle changes
- Supports and participates in weekly Sales & Operations Execution process
- Re-defines and leads our MIPS (Managed Inventory Programs) to support improved service via improved forecast accuracy
- Interface with other functions as required ensuring transparency of the Demand Planning process and results (i.e., commercial, schedulers, supply planning, etc.)
