We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Contract Specialist within our Commercial Management Office, with a focus on supporting claims resolution and handling disputes.
The Contract Specialist provides expert support for purchasing and contracting services at Bruce Power. This role manages the full contract lifecycle — from strategy development and negotiation to administration and closeout — while supervising staff handling buying and administration tasks. It involves assembling and managing strategic service agreements, supporting minor contract negotiations, and analyzing market trends to assess global supply capacity.
This is a term (temporary) position which may be for a period of up to 60 months, offers a competitive compensation package and is located on-site in Tiverton, Ontario.
- Support the Department Manager in overseeing the claims team and supervising staff in buying and contract administration.
- Mentor team members, assign tasks, and contribute to training and performance assessments.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop and manage strategic service agreements and minor contracts.
- Assist in developing and executing contract strategies with suppliers, including negotiations and lifecycle management.
- Analyze market trends and global supply capacity to inform supply chain strategies.
- Use SAP and other tools for contract execution, tracking, and continuous improvement.
- Segment suppliers and forecast demand to optimize service aggregation and supplier rationalization.
- Manage supplier relationships, conduct audits, and drive performance improvements.
- Facilitate collaboration across departments and with Strategic Alliance partners to ensure alignment and agility.
- Explore and implement emerging supply chain technologies and e-solutions.
- Support business process improvements and ensure contracts meet performance, integrity, and risk management standards.
- Provide cross-functional guidance within Commercial Services, SCM, and Projects teams.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Strong foundation in engineering principles, purchasing, logistics, inventory control, and contract law.
- Skilled in demand planning, benefits tracking, and cost-saving strategies through sourcing and negotiations.
- Proficient in financial analysis, business case development, and commercial evaluations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including collaboration with executives and suppliers.
- Experience in commercial strategy, contract negotiation, and long-term supplier agreements.
- Familiarity with Bruce Power’s supply chain systems and procurement processes, including SAP.
- Ability to influence without authority and lead cross-functional teams.
- Customer-focused with a strong results orientation.
- Understanding of project lifecycles and strategic supplier segmentation.
- Experience with claims and dispute resolution; knowledge of schedule analysis and delay impact evaluation is an asset.
- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the completion of a (4) four-year university education in an appropriate field, such as business administration.
- A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
