The Construction Estimator will work under the direction of the company’s Operations Manager and is responsible to create accurate and competitive bids. The Construction Estimator will efficiently and effectively gather all the documents needed to give the most cost-efficient estimate for jobs. Those include specifications, plans, technical drawings, subcontractor quotes and material costs. The Estimator will also keep up with market trends to ensure bids are reasonable and competitive. After projects are complete, the construction estimator will work with Project Mangers to evaluate the accuracy of bids and track results.
Responsibilities:
•Prepares and estimates budget costs for jobs by studying plans, specifications, and site conditions.
•Coordinates with the Operations Manager to develop the “Jobs to Bid” list and maintains the list.
•Determining what factors will influence the cost of our services.
•Negotiate supplier prices.
•Provide sub-contractors with all drawings and site plans prior to the bidding process.
•Meet with the Project Managers to hand off projects and discuss bid strategy.
•Support all field operations especially during startup of a new project.
•Prepare bids for all types of work: trenchless, tunneling, pipe rehab, vertical drilling, utility locating, open cut, excavation, shoring and wet utilities.
•Read geotechnical reports, plans and specifications to give accurate bids.
•Obtain clear and complete understanding of the specified requirements and the physical conditions on projects to bid.
•Know our competition and what their workload is, relative to the industry capacity and demand.
•Ensure estimating software database is correct and up to date.
•Knowledgeable/up to date on latest technology, current methods, and equipment.
General Duties:
•Prepare and estimate budget costs for construction.
•Actively seek jobs to bid on a regular basis. Communicate with owners and/engineers on future projects.
•Coordinate with clients and vendors to move bids forward.
•Conduct regular "Post Job" follow ups.
•Keep backlog spreadsheet updated.
•Spend time in field to gain full understanding of company and various jobs.
Qualifications:
•Bachelors Degree in related field such as construction or civil engineering
•3-5 years of experience in a related field.
•Knowledgeable in various estimating software's
•Experience with Microsoft Suite
•Excellent attention to detail
•Effective verbal, written and presentation skills
•Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•Experience with Estimating pipe preferred
•Experience with wet underground utilities preferred
•Experience with tunneling dirt preferred
