The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

The – Construction Coordinator is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s dynamic team. You will provide a critical role responsible for overseeing the EPC contractor installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems in LNG facilities that typically include liquefaction plants, storage tanks, and associated infrastructure involved in the processing and transportation of LNG. Your role plays a critical part in ensuring the successful and safe completion of piping construction phase of the LNG facilities. The successful candidate reports directly to the Area Construction Manager and Site Construction Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s engineering and senior management team through the construction phase of the project.
- You would oversee and participate in a team of technicians and specialists reviewing contractor ITPS and planning testing and installation programs for construction, and possibly pre-commissioning and commissioning. This includes review of the installation of piping systems and vessel fabrication according to project specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards, and ensuring that the correct materials and procedures are used for various piping components. Your role involves delegating tasks, coordinating work schedules, and providing guidance to ensure the team's efficiency and productivity in support of the contractor installation plans.
- Provide input and monitoring with team construction managers to develop a comprehensive plan for the piping construction phase. This includes scheduling and resource allocation for daily and weekly planning to attain schedule milestones.
- Provide input and monitoring with team construction managers to support project control team in evaluating cost related to the piping construction phase, including providing input and support into the Change Management program.
- Implement and support quality control measures and the owners quality team to ensure that all piping scope meets the required standards and specifications. Address any non-conformances and work with the quality team to resolve issues.
- Enforcing strict adherence to safety guidelines and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for the construction team.
- Coordinating with the Area Construction managers, Site construction manager and Project Construction director and other departments to meet construction timelines. Monitoring progress and addressing any delays or obstacles that may arise during the piping installation.
- Overseeing the EPC contractor handling, storage, usage and preservation of piping materials on-site. Including above and underground, all metallurgies.
- Participating in resolution of technical issues related to piping systems promptly. Collaborating with engineers and other stakeholders to find solutions to complex problems, including stress evaluations.
- Ensuring control and turnover of accurate records of piping activities, inspections, and tests for reporting and auditing purposes.
- Ensuring that all construction activities related to piping are carried out with minimal impact on the environment, and that environmental regulations are strictly followed.
- Assisting in the training and development of piping construction personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and ten (10) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to fifteen (15) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications to comply with local requirements.
- A strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on cryogenic piping systems, sealing and leak detection.
- Strong background in all installation on site, including above and underground practices, all metallurgies and polyester piping materials such as HDPE, pipes up to 48” extra strong wall.
- Experience in piping stress, including frequency and acoustic vibration, and piping nozzle connections to vessels and equipment.
- Experience in piping corrosion prevention practices, in particular stainless steels, aluminum, and hi-alloy metallurgies.
- Previous experience in supervising piping construction projects, preferably in the LNG and oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes related to piping, such as ASME B31.3, B31.8 and API 1104.
- Familiarity with LNG facility construction processes and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and project plans.
- Experience in construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover of large-scale tanks.
- Experience dealing with OEMs, consultants, contractors and other relevant third parties in particular contractor oversight.
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures for Tank Piping construction and repair.
- Contractual and procurement knowledge.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in particular to commercial, contractual and procurement written notifications (i.e. letters).
- Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
